I can give a little more insight into departments affected. IT took the biggest hit, >20% reduction across the board. Safety / UP Police also took a giant hit, not sure of the numbers. M&S and Operating may have also been high, but far less than IT/Safety.
So all this to meet the 7% goal overall - so what departments were safe? Of course, Finance and HR. Of course the ones who figure out the quotas turn out to not need any cuts in their own departments!

Of the 63 let go in Safety, I imagine they were all IPO's working at the auto-ramps. You know, the injured trainmen such as myself. Way to go U.P., throwing your cripples to the curb to save a few dollars.
Yeah apparently Lance Fritz had a meeting with IT today to try to quell the flames. Said something like "I think Operating took the most hits in numbers" (maybe true if you combine some of the numbers above?) "but maybe IT took a large hit in percentage."
Maybe???? What an a**hole. Seriously, you let go almost 25% of a department and can't be upfront about it? Can't tell the truth? This guy's a joke - tell the damned truth, Lance. You upended a whole lot of lives on Friday, so at least be honest about it.
IT lost 167 - 100 voluntary and 67 involuntary.
Really living the "Safety First" mentality, am I right??
