I have experience and was brought in at max rate but I'm nervous about being a temp. Do hard working temps ever get offered permanent employment? Any insight from anyone would be appreciated!

The reality: your a temp and a temp will replace you. You're in a death spiral. I am going to assume your intelligent . You read this site, why on God's earth would you think you had a chance? This site gives you some insight what happens in Vz. Do you actually think your going to be given a factual response? Best advice, go get a full time non temp job.
then why are you on this site loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go ask the Bacsi and vcs tech's . All kidding aside keep your options open and don't let them walk all over you and string you along with promises . If it's lone work your being hired for the chances are pretty good they are really short on lineman and have a ton of work and alot of them want to go .
I was a temp that became permanent, that was in a different era but you never know what happens with the next contract. Just don't pass up another opportunity if it comes your way.
I remember working as a temp in a union shop. Worked my rear off. I was the second to last temp they let go out of probably 15-20. Got to work longer than most of the others but still just a temp at the end of it all and let go when business got back to normal. Sad but true.
Look at it as working for an employment agency. Each day, can be your last. And don't sit at the mall for 6 hours (duh, line crew)...
As long as you are not a total jerkoff when your time is up , it will be a numbers game . A lot of us will be leaving the company in 2-5 years and Verizon knows that . They would then probably have the temps fill those spots . Then VZ will have a workforce that has no pension plans and can pretty much be let go at any time . You will have a decent job but as with everything now , not as good a job as the guys before you ?
First, congratulations.
Now onto the reality, nobody in Verizon management will notice that you're a hard worker. You're just a number that is measured by numbers. They have created a measurement system that rewards the loads and punishes those that actually do their job. Most of the good techs have realized this and at this point, don't really care that they have a bullseye on them.
Then there is the fact that if you're Union all you are is also just a number, where your place is in seniority. If Verizon is going to let go 10 techs and you're the 10th lowest in your area in seniority, you're gone. Performance be darned.
My advice is to use these 3 years to learn and make money, but keep your eyes open and resume up to date.
Full disclosure: I do not work for Verizon. But I have 40 years experience in corporate America and can tell you that hard work will get you nothing. Think about it from the employer's perspective; if you have an employee (temp or permanent is irrelevant) that is working hard and doing a great job, why would you promote or take that person out of that role? Leave them there to willingly do the grunt work. Brutal but true.
