The dominoes keep falling.

"I think Michael Dell shook the storage group from the very top. I think this was a clear message to all storage employees that you can't hide behind server revenue and get to hold your jobs."

Are any storage companies making money? It seems that they all have razor thin margins and don't know from where their next meal is coming. This is supposed to be the age of big (and ever growing) data yet storage vendors struggle to make money.

RJ taking Early Retirement (Cough, Cough) to work on her bucket list, DG leaving now aswell, just after the year anniversary, anyone believe in coincidences.

Storage sales are down thanks to the fundamental shift towards HCI. That said, it is inexcusable to lose market share by several percentage points as the storage leader. So management had to pay the price. Let's hope JC can do better.

Goulden always has some weird explanation of why storage sales are down X digits. I agree with the comment that he is the master of delivering shty news. He gives you an explanation so complicated that while you are brain frozen trying to make sense of his words, he simply leaves you in an infinite loop state and moves on to another part of his presentation. He did the same exact thing today in the ISG all hands.

In my opinion, he quit because they laid off a lot of his engineers on Friday Sept 15th.

There are too many higher management folks (e.g. Goulden) in EMC, speaking in cool British accent.

other than their accents, everything else look fake.

Goulden was highly skilled at delivering really shtty news to large crowds -- e.g., you're not getting your full bonus, even if you met all your goals, because other people screwed up and we don't feel like paying you -- and making it sound like an inevitable result of forces beyond anyone's control, not* a deliberate choice by management.

He was most useful as a front for really bad policy and betrayal. I'm sure he worked out this deal before the merger was even finalized - not necessarily because Dell's policy's are any better than EMC's, but because from what I've seen @ Dell so far, you have to actually substantiate your claims w/ numbers (bogus though they might be) and Goulden's pronouncements always seemed to have a lot more authority behind them than substantiation.

Should be interesting watching everyone @ EMC adjust to Dellification. Or not. I'm on the leading edge of that -- got s---ed in nearly a year ago -- and it's definitely a different world.

I just wish and pray that Dell EMC will go down as a mega failed merger with their outdated technology solutions. Wish technology innovations and disruptions should thrive through small startups. Amen to that. Shalom and Om Shanti as well.

Dell can't buy pure storage. They have already bitten the bullet by buying EMC group. Now they have to compete with storage start-ups and next gen cloud companies like Amazon. It's interesting to see if Dell can salvage money outta EMC.

Goulden's ouster is no surprise. It was in the works for more than six months. His role was to get the merger complete and skydive outta Dell with his golden parachute. What is interesting is legacy Dell wresting control over EMC. Jeff Clarke is Dell's right hand man who now heads all including client and enterprise. Austin is the power center and not Hopkinton. Targets and policies will be driven from Austin. Storage group will be Dellized with strict cost control through Dell's trademark spreadsheet management. It's going to be a culture shock to Hopkinton. They haven't tasted Dell culture as yet. It's coming.

They should just buy Pure Storage already to at least put out that fire.

Not to forget the CTO of storage

Who is the CTO of storage?

Not to forget the CTO of storage, the Nero and fiddler on the roof. The guy who thinks tangentially about getting IOT and AI into storage management. By the time Dell EMC Storage will be gutted by storage start-ups. It needs to be seen how long they last before they get evicted from Dell.

Actually the best of engineering talent have already left EMC. What we are left in EMC are the mediocre leaders who have grown up the hierarchy because of the vacuum created by these good leadera leaving. That explains the JBs and CBs and their technology vision which are bound to fail. They are also biding theirvtime making mega bucks till they will be fired. I have bet a couple of thousand dollars that these fellas will be fired within six months.

Now there is a gun on Jeff Bordeaux. Deliver or leave.

JB is a unknowledgable person who wanted to make the storage arrays sentient using machine learning algorithms so he can sell them. My opinion is that with the departure of Goulden JB is already a dead fish with 0% chance of survival.

What's happening is similar to the same timespan after the CML acquisition, top management stayed just long enough to be able to open their golden parachutes and then headed for the door. Expect to see a lot more of high level legacy EMC management following Gouldi-locks down the road to retirement or CEOdom at some other company.

About time Dell woke up and started cleaning house where it will really make a difference!

Alan is a mediocre sales guy. Not no in front of EMC sales executives. JB is a low grade engineering leader who won't be able to deliver to Dell's expectation. Don't be surprised if JB and his deputy CB are fired six months from now.

Nothing wrong with the leadership. They will kick EMC execuexecutives up their rear to deliver. JB. CB and their CTO better deliver or get lost.

The days of all those engineers who do nothing in Hopkinton and NDC are numbered. The layoffs are coming, baby! Nobody will fend you off now.. Such unfortunate purchase will need a lot of trimming to fix the Dell balance sheet..

Is this really a surprise ? Its one year after the merger I am sure this was pre-arranged. Goulden will go somewhere he can be CEO and MD will want he own guy running legacy EMC.

Goulden doesn't care he made 10s of millions during the merger.

He is laughing all the way to the bank.

Dell is the one holding the bag.

I don't think he quit. I think Michael Dell shook the storage group from the very top. I think this was a clear message to all storage employees that you can't hide behind server revenue and get to hold your jobs. He is now saying that you have to make money for me otherwise astala vista baby! God help us all now. I don't know how the company will be shaped now. Interesting times ahead.
