Customer service

Do you think the customer service or rss position will come back into the stores?

I remember (about 7 years ago) they got rid of the ICS (inventory) position, brought it back a year later. Then the south got rid of rss 5 years ago, then brought it back a year later...I guess anything is possible.

"The new economy is low skill = no pay they either role those functions into higher paid employees and make them work more or they find a way to automate it..."

@1mxd, while I do not disagree with your premise, one obvious shortcoming (of the many) of that school of thought is that it's a misguided means of operating an enterprise.

You now have the problem of an economy full of higher paid people who are now bogged down (but being paid somewhat more handsomely hourly) spending time doing the minutia that clerks and others used to be doing for less money.

There should be a better and more logical balance between the natural hesitancy to take additional people onto a payroll, and that of having highly-skilled and higher-reimbursed people wasting time doing work that doesn't call for their skills (i.e., doctors spending 1/2 their day doing bureaucratic paperwork).

It makes more sense to maintain specialties. If you have 20 specialists wasting a 1/2 hour each and every day doing their time sheets, and trivial paperwork, to satisfy bean counters, that's 10 hours of premium-paid wasted time that could have instead been given to someone for less pay who will become an expert at it, and do it in far less time than their daily eight hours eventually, leaving additional time left over for further accomplishments each day, and adding 10 productive hours to the specialists each day.

What kind of stupid question is this? They are going to close your store. Get ready.

No. They are going to do away with commissions, raise base pay, and you will do the work of the RSS.

Did they ever bring techs back?

Why have all these reps for different positions when you can have a sales rep do the work of all of them with no increase in pay?

"Were not gonna pay someone $15+ an hour to greet were gonna get rid of them " this was at a VLSS voice of employee meeting 2 years ago.
