Contract job

So I got a job offer for L3 but it's a contract offer, the thing that scares me is that I don't want to be out of a job once the contract is up. How likely is it that they'll keep me after my contract is up?

I am currently working at L3 in California. They will most likely extend your contract if they like you. I was extended twice although I came as three month contract in February. If you don't perform they will let you go. It all depends on the department and people you work with. It is a great company to have it on resume.

Get a new job, what a stupid question.

You realize as a contractor, you can wear the wrong aftershave one day and be let go. Nothing is permanent when it comes to contract work, especially L3. Been in and out of that place since 1994 like a revolving door. You better be ready to look at their jobs as real short term and be ready for anything. I've personally enjoyed my time there, but it is whimsical at best.

If you currently have a full-time job it may not be a good idea to take a contract job unless it is for a LOT more money.

There are some L3 locations that are struggling, others are doing OK. But unless this six-month contract gets you some new skills or valuable experience, it might be better to keep looking.

With the upcoming lay-off's coming this Friday (Sept. 22), I recommend not taking the position. I recommend holding off and looking at another defense contractor which is more stable and looks more enticing on your resume. If you are mobile, look at Sierra Nevada Corp (Stock ticker: SNC). They are growing and have some solid looking opportunities on the horizon. The same cannot be said for L-3 which is run like a cross between Payton Place and sixth graders (extremely bad leadership run on nepotism). Don't waste your time.

Keep your current job. L3 is the sh--test most poorly managed company you will ever find. I wouldn't wish working there on my worst enemy.

It's a 6-month contract. I current have a full-time job, so that's why I don't know If I should take it. My position ain't a "high-demand skilled position" I do want to work for L3 seems like a interesting company. I just wish they had offered me a full time position.

I work for L3, we have some contractors who have been here for years, others are let go at the first opportunity. The ones who hang on for a long time seem to have specific high-demand skills not present elsewhere in the company.

How long is the contract? Hopefully its at least a year. Anyway you'll get some experience and be making some money. Maybe there will be full-time openings while you're there. I'd say go for it, this is the "gig economy,"

If you don't want to be out of a job once the contract is up, don't take a contract job.
