Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

VJRP / what is coming next?

Hey Guys, I was eligible for the VJRP and after a week thinking about it I decided to take it and looking behind it seems that it was the right decision. I keep monitoring this site as I still have a lot of friends working there and I hope the GE I used to know 3-4 years ago will be back... I believe Capital wrong timing divestiture and the leadership programs that move people in C-levels without any real experience other than power points wizards ruined the company. I hope the new CEO will see that and nuke all these useless E-band useless leaders.

Anyway I heard November will be the D-Day for an involuntary layoff.. are you guys hearing the same?

Good luck for all of you

Hey @Pk6pvcF-3aqi. How is GE Digital looking now?

To the person who said Digital didn't have any layoffs - WRONG! People who were 5yrs+ at GE were absolutely offered the "voluntary separation" package. I know one person who took it (from Digital) and all but two of his team took it as well (the two that didn't were an E band + an SPB). So yeah...he's the new guy, I bet. Sorry about your bad luck, dude.

They layed off the guy who is supposed to count how old posts are. They say automated that feature but its not working without the 20 IT people working in the background.

Why does every entry on this site say it was posted 7 days ago?

@Pk6pvcF-3aqi, that is absolutely FALSE!!

You must be the new Millenial hire, cheaper wage labor that GE is seeking out these days to replace the older, more experienced worker with higher salary?

Maybe you're really a GE recruiter or exec trolling the board to create a diversion here for prospective job candidates?

What is true is that layoffs and then voluntary layoffs began early 2017 for IT and Digital employees, now expected through 2018.

Good luck.

We are still riding high in DIGITAL - great bonuses and only contractor reductions in US. We are in great shape!

NO Layoffs in GE Digital in 2017 in US - thank god!

The GE banding system. Starting from officers, they are senior executives, executives (E band), senior professional, leading professional, professional, and sometimes assistant professional. Then it comes the contractors.

Not all E bands are deadweight. Trust me, we can cut 70% of the officers and senior executives and the company is still floating. Some jobs can be led by EB or SPB.

The E-bands are dead weight.

Useless E-band leaders.

What is an E-band?

Is there another VJRP? I'm so happy I took it...

Definitely take the VJRP. Get far away from the company and bring friends. I working in engineering in the 2 sites we are talking about here for many years and was lucky enough to be offered my pension in lump sum....take it while it still exists!

Layoffs in G'ville actually started in March...but yes they continue indefinitely. What a horrible work environment...good lord!

Layoffs started in Greenville in July (around 300 then) and have been much smaller since, but they continue. Last I heard was 3 heads cut 2 weeks ago...more to come. I'm hoping to see some dead weight E-band cuts, which hasn't happened thus far.

Don't have any info on these rumors, but if Power tries to get out of Germany, that will take a long time. Moves like that go through the EU and German government boards, and both will have issues with it. No saying it is isn't possible, but it will take a long time for the process to run its course. So unless the process has already started, I doubt that will happen this year.

There was only one or two people in Greenville let go in the wave last week. A plant engineering team in Sch/Atl was cut entirely survived by a Baden counterpart, about 25 people. 4 Sourcing managers cut in Windsor, and a number of sourcing people in SCH (don't know numbers). I heard that was wave 1 of 3 by November. I hear corporate will get hit. I also heard a rumor that Power will pull out of Germany all together. I am in Windsor.

I received a DFMLWA package today. Don't Feel Much Like Working Anymore! At least they are paying for my s-x change before I leave.

You got it. These "experts" are the ones I was talking about it. Hopefully the CEO will see the truth.

When did layoffs in Greenville happen? I haven't heard of any.

D-day already started in Greenville, SCHY and pretty much for Services everywhere. This will be a long drawn out death for many positions. Probably layoffs continue thru 2018. I'm not worrying any longer...beyond my control so if I get cut I'll take my severance and go to a competitor.

Good luck to you! Seems like CAS are treated like "experts" everywhere you go! They haven't said anything about Global Ops but they are no longer supplying us with paper cups for coffee. I think once 3Q closes they will give everyone the boot!
