Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

LE's cloud announcement

Is LE getting collateral calls from his lenders now that oracle stock is tanking. Getting desperate LE? Sure looks like it!

AMD server offerings s---ed, but their GPU and semi custom offerings are holding their own. If Oracle does have an arrangement with AMD it might to be do something semi custom.

Oracle cloud acquisition strategy is a fail, all it's done is create an integration nightmare that oracle has failed to address. Making more acquisitions makes nonsense. MB as SFDC wants to become part of oracle like he wants a hole in his head. Oracle is stuck in up the proverbial creek with no paddle curtesy of overpaid geniuses like SC, MH, TK, and LE himself. Eventually you reap what you sow, and in oracle's case its nothing good.

The AMD story makes no sense in an "if it's not getting us Cloud revenue, we don't care" company.

Neither does Accenture.

Problem is, there aren't a ton of obvious acquisition candidates that would move the needle on cloud that we can actually afford. SFDC? They have a marketcap of nearly $70 billion. Workday? $22 billion.

I'm not buying the AMD story. Their market cap is only $13 billion. If ORCL really wanted to buy them, they could easily do it despite this quarters earnings guidance. I think one of the markets concerns (other than the earnings guidance) is that ORCL will do another acquisition despite LE's comments about organic growth. I did see stories that ORCL doing some type of preliminary due diligence in Accenture (~$90 billion market cap) back in the spring.

A quick looksie at Oracle's balance sheet shows 60B in cash and cash like (liquid) assets and 10B in short and near term debt. So unless the books are cooked, LE still has a lot of cash to burn.

I think he's more worried about the stock price, and from the looks of it there is not much he can do, except increased dividends. The problem with that is that betrays the fact the ORCL is not a growth stock and is merely a "value stock"

AMD really? AMD is on it's last legs. I know someone who works at HP and they have had so many problems with AMD. All of AMD's developers are already gone, they disappeared a couple of years ago when it was going downhill. Now, HP can't get them to fix anything, cause they don't have anyone left who knows anything.

Larry doesn't need to destroy AMD, it's already been done. He would just be buying an empty shell. Wonder how much he was going to pay for the AMD leftovers.....

AMD, really ? Sure let's destroy another chip company on the heels of the Spark/Solaris shut down. OMG, I hope this is just a like, but nothing about this deranged management team surprises me anymore

Word is that this was supposed to be the announcement of the AMD purchase, which stalled due to the Q1 results.

@2umz The DB is the best product they have and it is a dinosaur. Good luck if you think you will find anyone developing any new applications on it.

Hahaha man you guys are really salty that Oracle fired you. The post above about dinosaurs has to be from an original Sun worker, they are really sensitive about their age.

People have to move on, you guys spend so much time speculating the downfall of Oracle, because you got kicked to the curb. Go update your LinkedIn profile.

LE is getting erratic, well at his age, what would you expect, especially after a night sweating margin call against his sinking oracle stock. Down she goes to the bottom of the ocean, that old pirate ship Oracle

I don't know about Accenture, but there was definitely something "unplanned" about that event. It was scheduled for 2 hrs, LE rambled through a few repetitive slides for 30 mins that looked like a marketing intern had created them overnight, and that was it?!

The people at Accenture are not stupid, they want to be part of LE's oracle like they want holes in their heads. What a massive waste of money that acquisition would be with people walking out the door, leaving LE holding an empty bag

Some think that the real planned announcement was the Accenture merger/acquisition, but it was either delayed or cancelled.

Do you think Oracle becomes OraKill soon if not almost immediately?

I got news for you. The Oracle database = DINOSAUR. No one is writing apps against the Oracle database. It's not cool, it's expensive, and why do you want to be at the mercy or Oracle who is laying off all the good engineers in the name of cost cuts and end up with absolutely terrible support where nothing gets fixed? On top of that, do you want to risk being audited?

Everyone is moving away from Oracle. The oracle database no longer has the gravity it once did. It's not going away but it will shrink over time. IBM still makes money off mainframes, but it's all legacy stuff where the switching cost is becoming less and less.

LOL - not even close and slipping fast. The way oracle is going he may eventually pass away no richer than when he was born

the "Big Announcement" was nothing more nothing less than the autonomous database. wow. main message was: why install your DB on AWS IaaS while you can install on OPC PaaS and with Oracle fantastic magic automation fire all your DBAs and save money.

well, maybe because AWS IaaS works well, didn't force one of my cu to wait 3 moths (months, not weeks or days) just to start a new db service on crappy OPC.

oh yeah, LE did talk also the universal credit. wow again. now Oracle Cloud must be absolutely the first choice, no one else is "even remotely close".

please give me a break.

btw LE was clearly short of breath (look your ID for your age, if you are not able to remember it) and very clearly not prepared, quickly reading slides and then commenting. a really disheartening show that was.
