Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Throttling streaming video will save Verizon $2.5 billion annualy

Anybody thinks that the money saved with this move (which, I believe, will lose us customers and money on another front, but that's not the point right now) will ensure fewer layoffs, or will it make absolutely no difference for us?

@1diy unlimited refers to usage amount, not speed or video quality

Unlimited is not a guarantee of priority. However, if there are caveats to the unlimited service, those are what Verizon has to disclose.

How is throttling not illegal when so many pay for "unlimited"?

It will make no difference relating to employment.

@npr - Verizon admitted to throttling a few months ago.

Verizon effectively capped its revenue from the wireless business with the unlimited plan. There is a limit to customer tolerance for added value products (device insurance, accessories, paying for connected devices that compete against devices without monthly fees). The only path to profitability is to cut costs. Verizon is apparently testing how far they can push custome tolerance.

I don't think this will prevent layoffs, or the pushing out of reps by creating a workplace experience that is incompatible with a desired quality of life. I firmly believe they are following the footsteps of competitors and moving toward the indirect channel handling the bulk of retail presence.

There is no throttling of data.

This was proven to be an issue with netflix, etc.
