Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE was a great company

I find it humorous that in the latest blog by Mr. Rice blog he emphasizes how great GE is. He should put that in context... past tense as "was" a great company. How ironic that the Corporate cronies are still trying to protect what they call an "Immelt legacy". These same executives responsible for the mess we're in yet they talk about "we all own it" . Well here is a news flash Mr. Rice... Immelt and the rest of you own this and its about time people like yourself at the top take "accountability". Remember that word that Corporate has engrained in all of us; guess it only applies below the executive ranks. WE can only hope Mr. Flannery cleans house at Corporate and holds the Business Leaders accountable. Yet even with that they will all walk away with millions... how about we just give them one week pay for each year service... wouldn't that put them on par with the rest of us. Their missteps costing thousands of jobs yet they still get to hang around to lecture the rest of us. Like we didn't know the Alstom acquisition was the biggest blunder in GE history, or cash matters. How about the billions spent on stock buybacks...great investment! Accountability at the executive level ended when Jack Welch left! The other unfortunate reality is we don't have any great Leaders to take their place that ended with Jack too. Jack developed people... now promotions are based on factors that certainly don't include competence.

As the layoffs continue good people are exiting on their own, others that haven't been lucky enough yet are getting axed and those that are still drinking the "kool-aid" will end up being the lower end of the scale.

Mr. Rice newsflash... how about dismantling your own billion dollar plus (GGO) organization... that would certainly save a lot of cash and keep those people adding value in place.

Hopefully Mr. Flannery will clean house; he has a tough task to turn the culture around where people feel there is direction and strategy after 16 years of being on a ship without a rudder that has run aground.

Mr. Rice keep the lectures coming as I guess that's your contribution in putting customers first.

GE was meant to be a solid and reliable benefactor but instead they seem to be a bunch of losers.

Susan Peters needs to go also. All part of the cultural problem not to mention part of Immelt's cheerleading squad. They all keep spouting off about his legacy... I'm not sure what they mean but from where I sit given what he has done to this company over the 16 years I'd consider it a crime much less how we could let him walk away with over $200MM. Employees need to make their voices heard that enough is enough... we expect more from the fat cats at Corporate and they better get the company turned around where people are proud to work here. Today people are just here for a job if not looking for one which would be strongly recommended. Oh...not walking the talk either... no cash but yet they give themselves stock options recently... how hypocritical--- when was the last time you got options--- although on second thought those that you might have aren't worth anything as the stock lost over 40% in 16 years...guess that is a legacy to be proud of! Let your voices be heard we expect more!

Concern is Mr. Flannery was head of BD team that sealed the Alstom deal laying out over $13B cash. Siemens must be laughing all the way to the bank after they ran the bid up and we go s---ered! Great deal!

Mr. Rice's position is an unnecessary noise in the organization. GE can float without him being in the middle. His position should be eliminated to save big chunk of money.

Let’s see how far the GE corporate cuts will go. These jokers remind me of our elected officials. Screw everyone that you represent and take, take. I like the comment about sending them down the road with one week of pay for every year of service.

How about cutting the company car, country club membership , and paying every damn expense if they are relocated. Time to feel our pain GE leadership. Oh, I see you really made some serious cuts the corporate jets are grounded. How about you fly on commercial jets like almost every other business in coach and book your travel within two weeks to save costs.

Pretty much all the officers said the same thing in the past few weeks The line "GE is a great company" comes from the officers' meeting and no, your not allowed to say otherwise.

Accountability ends at the manager level, especially at GRC! Good VA got rid of the layer. But now, LMs have become TOLs and they playing the same game. Now all people that do real work, have to explain and s**k upto several TOLs. The culture of promoting people that can engineer ppts needs to GO! It is probably too late. GRC leaders started explaining to GE businesses on "relevance" of GRC. GRC was a mess and is a mess. Until it is turned upside down there is no hope,. There are good engineers and scientists that are sticking around. Several good ones have left or leaving.
