Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Team leads, Managers & Club Managers...must be nice to have a decent paycheck

I've been with the company for just over 3 years now. And yes I have seen my share of job cuts, position cuts and crappy so called "pay raises". The only real thing a love about working at Sam's Club are my co workers and a few of my managers. The hours are a joke and the pay is even funnier. And not even in a good way. My paychecks average about $480 every two weeks. Mind you that my rent alone is $390. So yeah...after my rent is paid I have no money left over for food and gas. Not to mention any other bills I have to pay like electricity. The Walmart/Sam's Club family is making billions every year from our hard work and labor for their stores and we get paid in peanuts. Do you know how shameful it is to work for Sam's Club, but yet I can not afford to shop there? I shop at the 99cents store and I hit up the food banks every month! When I started here 3 years ago I thought to myself "hooray I finally got in to a job where I'm sure I will be making a damn good wage!" .....jokes on me I guess. They have billions yet they like to cut our hours and job positions because it's always the same excuse. They have to cut hours due to costs. Really? I call b---s--- on that one!! The Walton family is living large while we struggle. I live in a small town and jobs are hard to come by. So I am holding on to this one because I have to survive somehow. Managers, Team Leads and Club Managers have it good. I like seeing their posts on Facebook about their lovely vacations and special events that they are able to afford to attend. Hmmm...must be nice actually having some extra money to save on the side right? We, meaning the little workers, are the reason that your company is striving. Pay us a better wage!! Without us....where would your stores be???

I've been in a position before in my life where I struggled just like you. Lived paycheck to paycheck. Walked myself to a food shelter every two weeks just so I had food in my stomach. Walked to work in a blizzard. I worked at Walmart prior to Sam's club as an hourly associate. I know the struggle. But I knew I couldn't live that way forever and I did something about it. I applied for an assistant manager position and BOOM! Got it. I've been an assistant for almost two years and I have yet to go on a luxurious vacation. I'm having my first child this year and I work my a-- off at work. Not all managers live the wonderful life you say they do. I live mine day to day and look forward to my days off just like anyone else.

Listen, as an Assistant you do get more pay, but also salaried. You can put in 50 plus hours per week for the same pay. So yes compared to Leads we are paid more, but put in more time. Often times no lunches or breaks. Miss one checklist and you're coached, one steel walk, etc. Everyone signed up for it including me. We all had the job offers, but now it's become divide and conquer and they love it. If nobody is pressuring them and we are all bashing each other then they win. The more you make means you spend more. When I was a Team Lead, I didn't make a lot and even had to be on Food Stamps and Medicaid. When you factor everything in and the responsibility and pressure, there are times that I wish I could go back and be an associate again. 40 extra hours of work per month and the stress isn't as fun as it sounds. Luckily I have saved some aside and have 401k if something were to happen with a job elimination. I wish you all luck and I know if you're here then you care about your jobs and that makes you good people who can make it anywhere you go. This company does not define you as a person.

Again....as you all fight with each other, realize that you're all still slaves.

Different kinds of slaves, but slaves nonetheless.

You have the illusion of choice, sure. The illusion of freedom is better for business. It keeps down uprisings and nasty things like protests and unions.

But before you go to sleep tonight, ask yourself how much more choice you have than many other slaves? You might be able to choose a different master to labor for-if you're lucky. But how much different would the treatment really be?

You'll spend your life working for rich men and be given just enough money to keep you alive and from being homeless.

And those managers just above you are paid just enough that to give the lower slaves something to aspire to. They're paid just enough that the middle managers will oppress the lowest workers for the rich men. After all, the middle managers don't want to become the lowest slaves-the field slaves.

But really...you're all still slaves. Or associates. Doesn't matter what you call it, it's the same thing.

Maybe all of Sam's Club and Walmart associates should Stage a 1day walk out. Perhaps that would get the attention of our over paid executives.

I dont appreciate that "teamleads" are put into the same category as assistant managers and club managers. I havr busted butt for 6 years for this company being a teamlwad for almost 5! I too live paycheck to paycheck and have more condiments in my fridge than actual food. I struggle with keeping my lights on and my car running. With an hourly pay of $13 and an annual average income of 21000 before taxes your teamleads are not living it large trust me. Assistants start ar 47,500 a year and most club managers 100,000+

So as i have stated yoy lumped hourly teamleads in a category they dont belong in.

I have busted my butt for 20 years to get to where I am and because I don't want to go into management which is not safe either I probably won't have a full time job ..... blood sweat tears didn't matter to the company .... that have Ben successful due to the commitment the long term associates gave....I guess we will see how itout wonder if home office reads these sites ..... the like to read people fb that's for sure

You earn exactly what you are worth. It is the American way for the powerful few to exploit the weak many. Always has been, always will be.

You need to back up team leads are not paid sh-- and we have as much responsibility as the Managers if not more. We have to listen to people like you, and Managers b--ching about stupid sh--! Then have to try to keep everything running smoothly in our department when lazy people call in ,cry, piss, and moan about how unfair life is. This is what we as team leads deal with. I have a disabled wife and I have still recovered from leukemia and my paycheck is the only one coming in. Be happy you are alive, happy you have a job, and try to enjoy the things you do have!

Last time I checked Wal-Mart didn't hold a gun to your head to make you work for them. They told you what you would get paid before you started working for them and you still signed on. It's not up to you to decide how much of their money they need to give you. They own the company. You have the choice to stay or go. No one should make enough money as a new cashier to pay for everything. You have to work your way up and gain experience. The skill set required to be a cashier doesn't warrant a high pay scale.

This in-fighting does nobody any good. The reality is that nobody in the clubs outside of the club manager makes good money.

You should support each other. As long as you are scrambling over who is the house slave and who is the field slave, nobody will be free. You're all still slaves.

You have a lot of growing up to do . Do your research before bashing on positions.

Really. I am a team lead and have been with the company 25 years. I have worked my butt off to get where I am. You probably started out more than I made in 12 years that I worked hard to earn raises. So don't be whinning about teamleads pay. Where would this company be without all the long term partners that have been dedicated and now getting let go.

I am a TL and I can tell you that YOU make more than me. Student loans take half of my check before I get to it. So stop crying oh poor me. My job is on the line but I am grateful for what I have been doing. Look for something else, change your availability, or move to get closer to jobs, or go to school to better yourself. But stop just sitting there. It is not all the Walton's fault. Only one family member set on a board of directors. Tell family and friends to shop brick in mortar not online that is the true problem. And it is not just Walmart and Sam's Club.

Former rec TL here. 18 years with the company. Left making 17 an hour. Not bad considering but it took me a long time to get there and still wasn't any where close to what the mgrs make.

You have been there for 3 years. It's retail why are you not in management? Sams club and walmart are world wide. Get into the management training and move to a new store and you will be able to take vacation like the rest.
