Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Times have changed forever

I am not an employee of Walmart or Sam's Club thank God but this layoffs for workers that have worked at Sam's Club 20 plus yrs is a disgrace.

People who work here did not get up every morning to just a job they took pride in their job and to be told after 15 plus yrs sorry it will be your last day is a total disgrace. The world is becoming replaced by robots. What a bright idea!!!! These employees have families.

I would really like to know how much these companies are really saving by replacing their team with robots. I seriously hope these automated characters backfire and these locations are SOL. My prayers go out to each and every one of these hard workers and their families. I see in years to come these businesses will also turn out like Kmart and other Dept stores.

Companies these days are not how companies used to treat their employees. Sad sad world.

You are the lead in the Cash Office and you admit to not taking breaks? Stop giving home office reasons to replace us with machines. What you are doing by not taking your breaks is against the law and has resulted in numerous lawsuits against the company, costing the corporation hundreds of millions of dollars. We all can agree that it's all about corporate profit and keeping the stock price high, please stop justifying HO moves by doing the wrong thing.

Sure there is opportunities elsewhere. However finding full time work in our club is rare, not to mention the pay differential. Not really feeling like staying. But thankful it's finally out in the open. Speculation was tiring.

To whoever said that cash office wants to sit, do nothing and not deal with members obviously never worked cash office. In my club we never take breaks and barely get lunches. We handle customer service all day. Answering 99% of the calls, fixing screw ups, answering questions from all areas because no one including management knows what they are doing. We get called to help members at the desk and tons of calls about billing, receipts, taxes, and so much more. The cash part of the job is laughable. That's such a small part of what we do. As a cash lead for 15+ years I have tried to train back ups but the majority say it's too much. The knowledge needed and the workload at least at my club is too much for most to handle. You all will see.

PsrbOzI-2jzo Pardon me but how do you know what “these associates” still have? I’m confident you don’t work in store, club whatever. What you say about technology is true but certainly you should have some compassion for ANY employee anywhere that has been displaced. You have no idea what their situation is. Nothing better than a young arrogant as hole still wet behind the ears

I am convinced someone from Home Office is commenting on these concerns. Yes, they too are sitting in an office putting in their two cents. Why not be honest with employees on the front side instead of back stabbing. Go into these clubs and for once talk to partners. Don't just go in there with your nose up your a--. Did you not learn from Sam Walton? When he visited the clubs he was excited and we were excited. Go back watch his videos and learn about respect for the individual. You guys go in there with a negative attitude and are quick to point out all the negatives. You walk around with your long faces and yes no 10 foot rule for you guys. Lead by example!!

Would you stop using your debit card and write checks for everything to save a lot of jobs? Technology changes things and becoming more efficient and saving money is what good businesses do. Keep living in the past! I'm sure you can find someone that used to manufacture buggy whips online b--ching about how the car companies put them out of a job too!

Right, as a business they just want to break even. Who cares about how much they make. This is busienss.

If you can adjust one job without losing all of the jobs is it worth it? Not to anyone on this site because it’s all about me. It’s about staying ahead moving associates where the customer needs them. The customer doesn’t need someone counting money over and over when a machine can do that! Look at the banking world and the use of machines there. Technology is inevitable. Change is inevitable.

These associates still have jobs and can take another role in the store. However that’s up to them. Most want to sit in an office and not deal with customers. Well it’s retail. The choice is up to them. No one is telling them to go. They have options.

This company is not running bare bones to make a profit . As a company they made 126 billion in profit in 2016 but that is not enough they need more. This is not how the company was years ago they used to take care of their associates.

Unfortunately we have become a wasteful, greedy society. Nothing is like it used to be. Companies have to run on bare bones to make decent profits. People want everything for nothing.

They expect everything to be a dollar. Thats why we have "robots" replacing our jobs.

We as a society asked for this crap. Value is placed on things instead of what matters like faith and family.
