Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Continuation of stealthy layoffs

The WARN announcement was 310 employees losing their jobs in San Jose - as they are legally obliged to notify in the state of California - but what of all the others such as the people from RTP who posted on this thread for example? Are they being shown the door in typical Cisco "stealth mode" layoffs? What about all the contractors removed in the last four weeks - any numbers availabe there? I, like many others suspect that 310 is only the very tip of the iceberg. My sympathies to all the good folks who have lost their jobs in the latest bloodbath and I wish you luck in your endeavours securing new employment.

Cisco has become an expert in stealthy layoffs, @PsLjbGN-1exh. That's why morale is at an all time low, nobody ever feels safe. Job security is an imaginary term here.

@Yeehaw -- I would argue that they don't always find a place for hard workers. My brother-in-law's entire group was hit by the layoff 3 years ago. He had just recently moved into a management roll. Instead of looking at his 17 year contribution to Cisco, with very high annual reviews, looking at the fact that he was a CCIE and a Distinguished Engineer, they simply looked at the fact that he was with a group they were doing away with. There was no attempt to move him into another organization. It seems that being a highly-paid, white male in his mid-50s was a stronger consideration. (Arista scooped him up in a heartbeat. Needless to say, we don't talk business at family gatherings.) I've been with Cisco for nearly 20 years and have no delusions about my worth to Cisco. We're all disposable minions to our upper management.

So what is the number likely to be then? 310 in SJ, are we talking 1500 people worldwide about to lose, or have already list their jobs? What's BU's are being targeted?

Job security has never been real at Cisco, or most corporations. (16 year survivor) But when you have good management, they always find a place for hard workers. Sometimes the cards are dealt, and we end up with a bad hand... such is the case today.
