@Ptcqz70-5gds, You're an idiot. Try a little harder to be relevant as a laid off loser with no life and no prospects. You just failed.

Yes, @5zla, I know what I’m talking about. I’m the one who sold my patent to Halliburton for $500,000. Don’t ask for details on what patent.

4fyf - that's a load of bull. Do you know what you're talking about.

@4yss, There’s no “crime” being committed here, so move on to something else. This patent thing is merely a “rule” that’s mostly enforceable IF you are an active employee. Just don’t call unneeded attention to yourself if you happen to file a patent while you’re working at the company. Set up a shell corporation and file the patent under the business name. And of course, don’t tell your friends at work what you did either.

I don’t care if they have a non-compete agreement or “the patent is ours” disclosure etched into all the walls in the building just to remind us all. I’ll do want I want to. I’ll go work for who I want to. I’ll keep all patents that were my sole invention.

No i dont think you have signed a non compete. They do have a two year IP restriction after end of employment for any technology or patent you may create that are related to the oil industry.

You don’t know that for sure, 3sud. But fake story or not, what is your argument? Mine remains the same. I’m with the guy. The idea was his. Screw CVX.

I read the guy’s story, 3xof. It seems more like Chevron would want to perpetuate the crime, stealing the intellectual property of someone who just happened to be an employee who worked on an idea at home and on his own dime. Get real. I’m with him. Screw Chevron.

@3mcg, You are immature, we get it. Just letting stuff out and getting it off your chest? Who cares about the godfather movie? The guy committed a business crime, he didn't kill anyone.

I know perfectly what I signed when I joined the company and I know what the company policy is. They say this, but I choose to do that. What are they going to do about it? In my case, they did nothing then and they’ll do nothing now. Period.

@Ptcqz70-1xov = 100% accurate. Wow. That's pretty wild, to see such knowledge on this site. In addition, that is common for all majors and almost every company that I've ever worked at, including consulting firms. (38 years in O&G)

@hzq, So what you are claiming is that you got away with intellectual property theft!!! Cool! You do realize that it doesn't matter if you worked on it at home or not, I assume you are not that stupid if you accomplished what you say you allegedly did, which of course is only an anonymous Internet claim at this point - i.e. meaningless and most likely false.

Non compete agreements are a joke. Chevron also has language saying they have the rights to any patents an employee may register. I developed a technology into a prototype at home while I was an employee at Chevron. The idea came from my job, but the knowledge that went into its invention was not totally gained working at Chevron. I never told anyone at Chevron what I was working on my spare time. I ended up getting a patent a few years before retiring from Chevron. I sold the patent to Halliburton for $500,000. My invention is used in the O&G industry and I’m sure Chevron has used it. Just like the non compete agreements, the idea of stealing ones intellectual property is also an abuse.

Non compete clauses are almost unenforceable when it comes to persons. Even if you did sign one, a court will not rob you of your livelihood because a large corporation forced you to sign a piece of paper.

No compete agreements are generally frowned upon in Texas courts. If this is preventing you from finding employment, then contact an attorney in labor law. You could easily stop it and have Chevron reimburse you for legal and court costs. There are many internet articles about this for Texas. These agreements are low life corporate behavior.

I signed one. I can't remember what it was exactly called, but it was basically that.
