Thread regarding Sears layoffs

WE ALL ARE MORONS

... for staying with this company for so long. But come tomorrow, my moron days are over. Since I can start a new job on Monday, I'm going to no call/no show and enjoy a long weekend. My managers deserve no notice or courtesy because of the way they treat people.

eauw - Reminds me of this thread a few months ago... "Would you recommend. Sears corporate as a good place to work?" https://www.thelayoff.com/t/NuQsCXS - That OP turned down the job, or else he'd probably be making a post like eauw's right about now ;-)

I feel sad for Sears Holdings Corporation in Rolling Meadows. They're pretty pathetic and are hiring unprofessional people because no one want to work there or are afraid of being laid off at anytime. The environment is so sad and ghostly with many empty cubicles where their employees use to sit. It's kinda creepy to work at the Corporate Headquarters. I left after working there for only 3 months. The environment was too unprofessional, sad and miserable employees everywhere throughout the entire company. Most of them are looking for a new job from fear of being axed at any time. I couldn't take another day of the mental torture in that hell hole. Good luck SHC, what goes around, comes around. I could care less what happens to Corporate as they did not care about the thousands of employees they LAID OFF who were not billionaires and had families to take care of. Rich bastards make me sick! You get what you deserve!!

I'm leaving in the middle of my shift this evening without telling anyone. And then, of course, I'm not showing tomorrow. I'll instead be selling appliances at Lowe's next week. They've been after me for years. Then they didn't pay what I was making. But between them upping their offer, and Sears commission cuts and lack of customers (hear that, Eddie, they are CUSTOMERS), it will be more now. Good luck to you MORONS (OP's word, not mine) who remain.

What bridges are there to burn, especially at this company?

Just about every employer, our company included, verifies your position and your start date and the day you left. At that, in a lot of cases, a company's HR call center has to do all of this for liability purposes. They know nothing more about you than what shows up on a computer screen.

If you want to be assured of how this process is handled, have a friend pose as a potential employer asking for a reference. Have them call your manager and see what happens. They are probably not going to say you walked out because, then, that exposes them to liability.

Stick it to 'em. When you get the new job, just walk out. This is modern business. Easy come, easy go. Would you be given a warning if your position was going to be eliminated?

It's a two way street. You can end your employment at any time, just like your company can end it themselves.

I, too, have decided this will be how I exit, and likely in the middle of a shift. As for a reference, it's not an issue. Sears company policy, as with most companies these days, is just verifying when you worked there and job title. It's for fear of lawsuits. I wouldn't have done it this way under the many other store managers we've had. But the latest has created an atmosphere of fear and paranoia in the store, all while smiling and being reasonably soft spoken. In other words, the biggest fake of a boss ever -- the worst by far in my more than a decade here. Managers of B stores that have closed for lack of performance should not be elevated to running an A store.

I'm doing the same when I find another job! I'm on the Kmart side. The dm treats our managers like sh--. We are lucky to have two good managers in our store. The dm beats them up all day long. We are so short staffed. I know the assistant is going to do the same as soon as he gets another line up. It's so sad how the company treats the workers that work so hard for it. I'm ashamed to say I work for Sears Holdings.

@PupaLIq I dont see nothing wrong OP is set he got another job so he has nothing to lose. Depending how he was treated if he was treated like crap than Sears deserves the same. I seen managers treat their employees bad in my store and I remember a co worker told me straight out the day I get hired somewhere else I am just leaving this dump and yes he did. Why did he leave? He was a lead was getting paid $10 bucks an hour than minimum wage went up as soon as minimum wage caught up he was minimum wage he didn't get a raise being a lead with responsibilities and no perks I understand why he just left the way he did.

No call, no show has become the standard for moving on from our Sears store since the latest manager took over. So I'll just assume the OP works with me.

Congrats on getting a new job I wish that for everyone! For selfish reasons I hope it's not you in my store it will just make it harder on me, but I understand the no call no show in your part, I just personally wouldn't do that. Good luck to you!
