Yes more layoffs this month. I'm hearing the rest of pricing will be hit and that they are thinning out merchandising.
And yes suppliers are cutting back because Walmart is dying. It'll be a long slow death but the writing is on the wall.
Hi 4xyf: depending on your line of work, you will likely have to relocate. I know several former (and current) associates who have chosen not to relocate, either because of family or spouse work obligations. In my opinion, unless if your spouse has a job with 100% guaranteed job security (i.e. government or a mortuary), then I would recommend leaving, the sooner the better. Sure, you may miss seeing the latest art exhibit at Crazy A's gallery, or miss out on the downtown squirrel cook off; but what good will those attractions do you if you don't have a job?? And don't even think about working for a vendor as many of them are cutting back, too (just remember why they came here in the first place, and it wasn't because of the deep-fried squirrel!)
@speakingout. Have you been able to find work that pays comparable salary in NWA?? I too was deemed worthless in 2015 and have yet to find work in NWA . My savings are now almost depleted and at age 42, whenever I find work, I’ll have to will probably till the day I die...
3tyr: Apology accepted. At one time, I was one of those associates, who felt that the displaced "had it coming to them"-only to realize I was one of those "worthless associates" on 10-2-15. I'm not alleging that you felt that way-just that we all have expiration dates stamped to our foreheads. In closing, I'm reminded of the following poem, written by Pastor Martin Niemoller-a prisoner of the Nazi concentration camps: "First they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the Socialists and I did not speak out because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me."
Please forgive for the derogatory phrase. I was reflecting the way the management must feel about the associates. I worked for the company for quite a few years and decided to move on recently due to all the craziness going on. It is a horrible place to work. I was always worrying about what our family would do if I was laid-off. It was too much.
Whoever keeps using the term "the trash being accumulated", You should be ashamed of yourself. These are people who have worked for this company for many years and their lives are being disrupted. I agree that sometimes people have stayed too long and it would be better for all if they move on. However, using hateful references about people this way is inappropriate and terribly unkind. Please consider your attitude and ask yourself if you want people to speak of you in such a horrible manner. Chances are you are a younger associate with the idea you are in some way superior to those being laid-off. You are not, you are every bit as expendable as anyone else. Even those being laid-off believed they were important to Walmart once. They were wrong, and so are you!
Ahhhhhh, who cares? Not me. I go into this fake-a---company everyday. Do my job as I have for almost 30 years. The best job I can do supporting the stores and the customers.
I could not care less about the jackasses running it. It’s a small town here. If I get the axe. F’it.
I don’t do the fake cheer. I don’t believe a word coming from the mouth of any leadership. I don’t take any print or email sent by the squirrels to heart. And I don’t even have the words the that chrome-dome bag of hot air we bought. Or that weasel that runs the US and the blue-vein-marauding wimp that is running (ruining) our technology division.
Everyone of them are pompous deep-throats with nothing but a yellow steak down their backs. You very seldom see them in public or large gatherings anymore. Least not all together. Wonder what they are afraid of?
Take their money, position, and inflated egos; and what do you have? The same little piss ants I used to pommel the crap out of for thinking theirs didn’t stink.
So quit the worry. What’s good does it do? You’re not in control. Least till you’re out. Then take control and move on. Perhaps you’ll run into one of them in the future. And have to opportunity to light into them about the crappy leadership and back-stabbing ways.

Yes, restructuring and layoffs will continue. Quarter-ending/beginning are managements' opportunity to dump the trash being accumulated.
