Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Just a heads up for anyone who gets the boot.

You will more then likely have to fight for 88sears to pay your vacation! They will put the hours on your check, but there won't be any money attached to it.....sneaky ba$tards!

I was smart enough to get the district HR person and called and left messages on her phone number. The position was since cut I believe. Two years ago? It is better to take it while still employed as if they pay it out after you leave, it Is considered bonus pay and is taxed at a higher rate. Between fed and state , I ended up with half the amount of pay I would normally get.

I used more than I had acquired when my store closed. I didn't have to pay it back.

@1fip Thats good to hear (if I was about to get screwed on not have my vacation hours paid) I stay in CA and I was accumulated all my vacation hours, but no more since things don't sound to great for overall Sears I am actually trying to enjoy my vacation hours at this point.

@1cbz Thats what I been doing actually the only reason I started to use them is because my hours stopped accumulated (has close to 100 hours). I just liked to save them up just incase I really needed the, but they stop going up and I called 88sears every time I called I got a BS excuse. One said you just have to start using them I was alright I will and been burning them like crazy. Also its best to burn them since you don't know whats going to happen to Sears at this point your better off burning your vacation if the company does indeed go under.

Here's how to remedy this. Take your vacation as you go. Don't let it accumulate. If the company shuts down totally, it probably won't be required to pay it.

That is odd. When my store closed I had a substantial amount of vacation hours accumulated which were paid in full.

Apparently you don't work in California. In California they have to pay you your unused vacation hours when they hand you your final paycheck. If they don't you call the state labor board and not only will you get your vacation pay but you will get extra money as penalties. I know this is fact because it happened to my sister- in- law with another California employer. By the time they paid her the penalties here final check was almost double.

I think it means you will see the hours as in 7.0 hours vacation on your pay stub but you won't get xxx dollars.

Huh? If they "put the hours on your check" and you cash it how are they not paying you. Please be more clear in your response. Thank you
