Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

More changes coming in 2018

Each market handles meetings with MM and GM's differently, but just know that change is coming. Receiving has been on notice since the Audit elimination and the past couple months has been a trial run on delegating Audit duties to other departments.

Where there is smoke, there is fire and January 2018 almost certainly will see the Receiving Invoice Clerk and Lead position eliminated. It also makes sense that any overnight reorganization to day/evening shifts will take place in January or maybe February if they decide to wait until after the year beginning meetings with GM's take place. A lot of good people will be losing their jobs and that is sad to see.

I have been with the company long enough to remember the early days when we were a pallet driven wholesale warehouse. In order to advance with the company you had to be able to operate a forklift, now hardly any hourly supervisors are forklift trained when promoted, and several have been leads for years without ever attempting to get their license. Our back room now has well over 20 empty U carts, L carts and other various carts almost all the time, not counting the carts that are loaded up with product. Almost all the pallet jacks sit idle, we are far from a warehouse company, just another retailer. Buying in bulk to save money as a concept is a business model that is dying, young people will continue to order online with home delivery for a price very close to what they are paying at membership clubs. Online shopping will not replace membership club shopping altogether anytime soon, but with reduced visits, club sales will remain flat or down for years to come.

Bumped from @PsSFEM3-3axe for good info.

Well here we are in December of 2018 and the plans to cut costs keeps going.. among the new self- help registers, PTC has already been notified, one long-time veteran employee, a receiving clerk decided to retire when told they would have to go the floor, one overnight has to help two days a week in receiving so will have screwed up hours of sleep, and two part-time (probably young) new employees will be dragged into an unfortunate situation unaware that anyone part-time is always temporary.. not to mention the GM has already been let go for their dedicated 29 yrs of service ( No apparent reason)... Pretty confusing messages that better things are coming... For who? I am looking forward to retirement.. but I can only hope to get there.

Receiving clerk will be gone from receiving but there still needs to be a receiver. With this new scheduling system trucks are scheduling during the day so someone has to unload it.

Hi

Just wanted yall to know Walmart, Sams Club made there biggest increase for 2017.

After letting go all the management in February gave them there increase YES .....and keep your eyes open receiving isn't next but for sure it's coming. PTC turn is here.

Managers will take the place of long time PTC responsibility......as the Gm would be over marketing.

Mr. Sam Walton got to be turned.....the company is destroying lives.

Well hello there 2018!!! Tomorrow is back to work wondering at what point I will be called into the office regarding The Layoffs!!!!! Deep sigh... Well it is what it is right??? We have all put our blood sweat and tears into our positions I’m sure with that we get.. don’t let the door hit you on the way out! Any hoot, enough is enough... I just need to know already. Can’t take wondering anymore. Good luck to each and everyone of you! Weather you stay with company and move to another area of the Club, or take the severance package.. remember how they treated us with lack of respect by keeping our livelihood so hush hush. So if you stay, do your job just enough and never forget!!! Best of luck. A disgusted Team Lead

Whether this is true or not, I don't know. We were just told a couple of days ago that SAMs Club has a promotion freeze in effect until February, due to changes coming in from home office. What are those changes, the managers aren't telling anyone, but from my experience at Walmart, nothing would surprise me. I have seen long term associates be let go, I have seen registers be replace by self checkouts, I have seen dept leads be reduced and brought back, I have seen reduction in the workforce at Walmart and I have seen managers be demoted because they are no longer needed or lost their job altogether.

Your post is mute, there is a pilot receiving program. Day stocking pilot will have an impact on receiving to some extent.

This is all speculation and no truth basis around it. The market managers had there meeting but have not discussed any changes with Club managers yet, it is certain that there will be more changes coming as there always are each year. As for the pilot program for receiving that people keep talking about there is no such thing in place at this time it is just one person spreading fear among others. If there are job cuts coming there is nothing you can do about it, just show up for work each day and do the best you can and take care of the members, remember they are the reason we have a job in the first place. Always keep your resume up to date and don’t be afraid to put it out there on job posting sites you never know what other opportunities you may find available, never limit yourself there is no job security anymore we live in a competitive world these days and companies will always look for ways to cut there bottom line to save money. So always have a back up plan ready and good luck to everyone.

Receiving clerk and team lead most likely eliminated in January with other positions. Shift in management duties will allow to eliminate most positions. Market meeting were kept silence and let Club Managers aware afterwards of up coming changes. The new era of digital is among us. Need to innovate and change in new direction. Restructure is coming in 2018. Push digital, scan and go, faster checkout, and samsclub.com will be future.

I have to say-this is the only company I ever worked for where so many people stood around and spent so much time gossiping about rumors which usually don't materialize...

Whatever money Walmart thinks it is saving with these annual changes is spent on the labor wasted by all these hourly people standing around gossiping about their versions of the latest rumor while on the clock not doing any work.

Someone ought to address, that, at a home office roundtable.

Receiving lead and clerk are and have been on borrowed time since Wal Mart eliminated a few years back. It’s a horrible mistake like Audit and Cash office but Gisele and John like to fatten their millions while sitting on planes and texting garbage. Eliminating long term associates will only be a temporary gain in $$. The long term negative impact will be crippling.
