Air France AF66 uncontained engine failure

As you might be aware, the Airbus A380 involved in today's incident had an Engine Alliance GP7270 made by the EA joint venture of GE Aviation and Pratt & Whitney. Initial indications suggest a failure in the fan section, which is Pratt parts (the turbine core is a scaled version of the GE 90). This will probably cause some jitters in the market tomorrow, but for now does NOT appear to be a GE issue (or even necessarily a Pratt issue).

EA is a 50/50 joint venture and though the parts in question were designed and produced by P&W, the problem does impact GE by nature of the JV.

My first reaction to seeing that news was to failure mode. Thanks for the update.
