Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

More eliminations incoming

Our Business office associate is being cut down to just 16 hrs/week. There is talk regarding receiving clerk and receiving team lead positions being eliminated. New jewelry cases are being installed in new clubs now and rumor says will be replaced in all clubs eventually. Does anyone know if this will eliminate Jewelry team lead, because nothing is being said about that. It is sad to see long-term associates being eliminated, because with them goes the sense of urgency, knowledge and superior member service. The younger associates aren't going to help with holding the club together in the same way. We actually take pride in our clubs. To the new generation, it is just a stepping stone to a paycheck. It's very sad that these changes are all about the almighty dollar.

Reposted from @PvtvA8E-1ytp for both info and the question. I was also wondering what's going to happen with Jewelry positions? Any info would be appreciated.

If you think special orders is gonna justify keeping a dead position like Jewelry TL you must not have been paying attention lately.

The increase in shrink at inventories since eliminating Audit team has increased far more than their salaries would have cost the company and its only been 6 months. Wait for a full year without them.

Without cash office tracking over/shorts and potential internal theft on their daily reports the losses will continue to grow exponentially.

Take away the receiving clerk? Biggest mistake yet when they do. Pallets upon pallets shipped wrong that no one is going to notice or have the knowledge to fix. Not detail receiving mixed pallets is already a huge problem.

So if you think a special order ring every few weeks, and a couple perfumes, and a handful of $50 “925” earrings a day is gonna save your position gone from most clubs a decade ago you are crazy.

Pyt0PMZ-apki. not sure that will happen. usually never enough desk associates anyway and certainly not enough to go out. i don’t think that’s at all accurate for several reasons. prob the memb tl will drop to memb associates or whatever and do that as she does now. anyone with a coordinator may lose that job. only one is needed and not even full time.

Anyone that has been in jewelry can do what you describe, it’s nothing that a pt or cos can’t do. Everyone thinks their job is special or irreplaceable. But like all the others it can be done away with quite simply. It’s only needed until it’s not. I don’t like what sam’s is doing but it’s all about money, not people. Who would have thought acct or recv was not necessary.

Many of you have no idea what a jewelry team lead does.....obviously. Who’s gonna answer members questions about jewelry. Special order.?Check on special orders ? Go out of our way to find a piece of jewelry at another club and have it transferred in ? Cos have no interest in doing this and they certainly don’t have the time. Sams needs to completely close the jewelry or do the right thing and give this department the backing it needs.

Starting on Monday in our club cash office 7 days a week 7am-11am only, 2 part timers. We were told Rec. clerk going away, rec. tlead keeping job,but not a lead. Rec. will do both jobs less pay.(loosing lead pay).

"Desk associated will be trained to go out on events." Screw that. Not using my car to drive around for Sam's Club. My car is for my use.

this 16 hrs for acct office is 28 which will be divided. just because you are the lead you will not be given 16. it will alternate between the two of you. 12 and 16. once the lead drops a level the two acct assoc are equal even if that person has been there a month and lead 10 yrs. it was a misconception but made clear later on. don’t bank on 16. better yet get out!

Jewelry doesn’t need a lead and certainly won’t once the new setup arrives. Very few clubs could count on consistent sales from that area. If your club was a big seller in jewelry for a long time you might have got to keep Jewelry lead but it hasn’t been a position in the clubs around here for 8-10 years. Not even full time hours there anymore.

Team Lead for Jewelry is going away. That's why they haven't hired replacements in Clubs. Jewelry associate for part of day. After that the COS. Counters will be like Costco. Heard that what Costco does Sam's will do. There goes the Membership team as well. Desk associates will all be trained to go out to events. Good luck on that one.

Pyt0PMZ-3yjn. some of it kinda is. now it’s not obvious. jewelry TL went away 3 or 4 yrs ago meaning if it’s vacated it’s not replaced. i think many of the more well informed GM know much more than you think, they are no doubt thinking ahead about where to put displaced associates if they want to keep them. i’ve seen that for several months now.

I don't believe it is on the wire for people to find they do not want anyone to know anything until it happens. If you know where it is then speak up. I believe the GM's know what is going to happen but they didn't find it on the wire.

According to the wire the Jewelry team lead position will be no longer, along with rec clerk, ptc, marketing team lead. The club mgr's can look and see who will be leaving, hopefully like the audit team all will be offer and job in the club, I am sure not all will get to stay.

As far as the jewelry lead it's always been that if someone leaves that position it is to not fill it

Club in virginia got new smaller counter last spring during remodel. Only part time hours for jewelry associate. CoS responsible rest of time. Thats why they are putting the smaller counters up front by electronics. . Can be given full time hours if you work another area of club. Ours works in clothing too.

If this is true wouldn't they have to tell us soon? 16 hrs? Who can make a living on 16 hrs? Don't they have to give us some advance notice? No Christmas shopping for me I guess. 16 hrs a week is not worth working there!

Rumor is that there will be 1 jewelry associate about 16 hours a week to check in jewelry. Then cos is to take care of rest.
