The previous methods of actually announcing layoffs during earnings calls had a negative impact on the share price.

Layoffs showed the world that Cisco is transforming from HW to SW. That helped Cisco stocks not falling deeper.

The previous methods of actually announcing layoffs during earnings calls had a negative impact on the share price. Our ELT and board have huge stakes in the company. You do the math. It also avoids some of the negaitive publicity that follows several years of continued layoffs of course.
