Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

I spend 2 hours a day commuting

I know people have abused the wfh option, but I really feel like the majority were not. We are evolving (well, most of us) and are able to be both productive and efficient from our homes. I am a single mom and was very grateful to be able to work from home to be there for my kids when they left for school and got home. My entire HON team was spread out across the globe, with no one on my team at my site. My manager was 50 miles away at another site. I often worked 12-14 hours a day from home, keeping my computer on early and late to accommodate co-workers overseas. I took my work very seriously and excelled at every project. Now, I spend 2 hours a day commuting in and out of the office and dread going in and experiencing everyone's depression and angst over what's going on. I now realize that I am working for a company that hates me. It's very much like being in an abusive relationship. If I get fired for the few times I've had to wfh since the policy changed, it will be difficult at first, but I think ultimately better for me to get out of this abusive situation. Honeywell is plagued by inept leaders and their antiquated perceptions - it is most certainly doomed.

Most who work from home can do it just fine. They aren't just playing with the dog or dealing with their kids. The real problem is managers who are either too clueless or too wrapped up in focusing on climbing the corporate ladder that they can't evaluate whether their people are being productive or capably judge the quality of their work.

What kind of idea is that?

I highly recommend buying a MOPED and slow-drive to the office/work and slow-walk everything at the office/work! 8-hour drive to office/work, 8-hours slaving away slow-walking things at office/work and8-hours of sleep at home or a co-workers place closer to the office. It a day in the life at Honeywell! Sweet Dreams!

Let's talk about the people that b---s--- all day long instead of working. If should be considered as timecard fraud. They are worried about people who work their butts off WFH and meanwhile there are loads of people in the office that do nothing but BS ALL DAY LONG and do about one hour of work per day. That is what is truly disgusting not to mention they disturb all the hard workers.

What other sites besides NJ have open floor plans? Plan was supposed to be implemented to most sites but haven't heard much about it lately....

Changing the WFH policy was short-sighted, as is the open floor plan hell they've recently created at my location. Working here went from good to terrible in the span of a few months. My resume is out there, I'm getting called for interviews, and I can't wait to leave--and work remotely. And good riddance to all the loud-mouthed extroverts.

My prediction as a recent 42-yr employee: All things change and wfh will eventually change. No company is perfect but Honeywell values good employees. A lot. Even if there are policies and groups where people are angry. Not all managers are capable but most are.

Just use unlimited vacation to work from home

You had the chance to just say NO and they would have given you a severance package. You didn't do that so now it's nobody's fault but yours. So, live with it or decide it's not working for you and move on.

This is all in you so you really don't have any right to complain.

Stop complaining. That's not an unreasonable commute, real work is done at work and not your bedroom with a dog or kids making noise in the background. Working free overtime is crazy and sets a expectation that our time isn't valuable-even to us.

Indeed- s--- it up buttercup

Before I retired I was supporting India, China and Europe, as well as Arizona and South Bend. I did it mostly from home at all kinds of hours since I was on the phone most of the time to spare fellow cube farmers the noise. Honeywell deliberately set up a dispersed team system and then did a 180 for mostly bogus reasons in a typically boneheaded corporate over-reaction. Now my compatriots get spend 8 hours in the office before going home to make more calls. Small wonder that most of them will be leaving as soon as they can.

@znw - and with that attitude it's clear why people continue to leave and why we can't get solid candidates to replace those who have left (when we can hire); as a leader who had/has great team members that were wtf I didn't agree with the policy change; give it a few more months and more will be gone including me; the goals and environment are difficult enough without many of these decisions that lack common sense

The rule is old news, time to grow up and deal with it. Plenty of companies out there you can go work for.

Two hours a day is lucky- I went from WFH 10-14 hours routinely- to now commuting 3-4 hours a day and putting in 8 hours of work. I would much rather be working than driving!

Is what it is though- I'm thankful to still have my job.

Like the OP, I don't work with anyone even in my state!!! So yes, driving in everyday is a big loss for both myself and for Honeywell. Oh and all my team in India that now has to contact me in the middle of their night to catch my working hours.

If I get RIF'd, I'll be ok. But I am thankful for the job until then-

I don't get all the free overtime workers. What did you expect? The company to compensate you. People like you is what's wrong with this country with every company expecting free overtime. Don't work unpaid overtime anymore and you shouldn't have done that in the first place. If you do do not complain about it because it is your choice.

I am the same way. I used to work 10 hours MINIMUM when i worked from home. A few times I worked 14 hours. People would call me up and ask for favors or needed some information. I figured, why not? I'm able to work from home and this will help the company overall. I felt it was a good trade off. Now? HA! I spend 2 hours commuting and i view that as hours given to the company. It's hours that Timmy COULD have had out of me being productive at home, but they'd rather I spend those 2 hours per day on the freeway. Well, that's fine. The trade off now is, I work 8 hours and not a second more. Meeting after my work hours? Declined. This is what the company wanted and I'm more than happy to acquiesce. Face to face collaboration is important, afterall.
