Have heard from several reliable sources that a large RIF will happen Tues. 10/10

Not always, mine was a Monday, last day of the month (was a large group of 70+) and a peer was a Thursday middle of the month. I think it just seems to occur more often that way.
Contractors were told to take off Christmas week, and part of Thanksgiving week.
Definitely been some layoffs here and there. Not sure if they’re trying to avoid a mass layoff or what’s going on. The rumor is there is a target, but their playing it out through natural attrition and laying off people sporadically to achieve individual group targets.
