Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Renewable Energy Layoff information

I heard Layoffs in the US will likely come in the next couple weeks. Optically just before the holidays... They don't want the bad press.

Protect yourself by challenging the layoff rationale. They will want you to sign releases to not sue. If you feel there is something fishy, file an ombuds complaint, contact the department of labor. There is no use challenging this internally as the leaders are getting direction from leaders in Paris.

While hundreds exit, there will be bottles of champagne drank in the Paris HQ by senior leadership on expat assignments costing MILLIONS... Repeat millions.

Where is the corporate governance

If you sign the release to receive your full benefit, you waive all rights to benefit from a claim.

This doesn’t stop anyone from going to a governmental agency if warranted

Anyone heard of offers for early retirement? I was made an offer last year but the timing wasn't right. Looking forward to one this year. To accept, you have to drop all claims against the company, and I have one pending. Also, to get severance pay from a layoff, all claims must be dropped. It states this in writing, but HR says no, you can still get severance for the layoff, and pursue your claim after being let go. Any truth to this?

why would they layoff anyone in renewables if renewables is out performing other areas, seems to me they'd want to cut the fat in areas that underperformed drastically compared to those that actually made the company money

Layoffs likely to occur Nov 30. This way they give you 4 weeks' notice and you are off the books as of Dec 31.

Good luck.

Life after GE is good, even though it might be stressful for a little while. You won't miss it and will count yourself lucky to be set free in the end.

If they didn’t want bad press, they’d wait until January.

You can push it through solutions. If there is any vulnerability on the business, they will settle in mediaon.

If you are a minority, have a disability, vet, over 50, you can make a case.

You can't sue ... all employees in the US were forced to go the route of arbitration
