Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon is considering voluntary packages for non-Union employees

An executive level friend said that Verizon is considering offering voluntary packages to non-Union employees this year...initially.

So, basically, they'd be able to cherry-pick who they want gone (those making the most/doing the least) from those who volunteered. Everyone I know that has 15+ years on the wireless side wants O U T.

From a PR standpoint, it would appear to be a more "fair" way to go about this.

That said, they're always going to use these layoffs to "weed out" the slackers/undesireables/troublemakers that they otherwise haven't been able to get rid of...and they'll have zero recourse because it was a layoff.

Those will be lumped in with the "volunteers."

Of course, VZ will say "We didn't get quite the number of volunteers we needed to make our initial headcount reduction minimums, so accordingly, there may need to be (WILL be) additional cuts."

Myself, I'm tired of this. Been here only 4 years and have seen 5+ rounds of layoffs, including the complete gutting of our wireless customer service folks.

I'm waiting on my offer letter from my new employer and will be gone by mid-November.

I need a sustainable career and the old dudes at the top have cataracts over their corporate "vision."

Time to go.

I'm very happy here except for the constant worry about whether I will get hit by the next RIF. If I wouldn't have that to think about, I'd be fine. Still very proud to work for Verizon. And the future actually looks good as long as we continue to offload some of these olde guard leaders who've made some questionable decisions of strategy. The whole industry is evolving, and it is great that the company is evolving as well.

I call BS. I've been here 17 years and most of the people I work with have at least 15 years. No company is perfect but most of us are very happy here.

Its a company run by idiots who only care about filling their pockets with money, they don't give a crap about their employees. These people are so greedy that they would take money from their own mothers for a gallon of milk.

I love that they took It is away from regular managers years ago and every director and above have still been getting them. Sh--. In this company anymore you can't be a white male without being penalized for being just that, a white male. I am a white woman who told her daughter's to tell everyone they are le---ans so they are treated as minorities to keep the jobs tgey have. That's what this company has turned into. I've been here over 20 years abd now my 1 daughter is here. This is not the same wonderful company I was with when it was Bell Atlantic than Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile. If THEY could learn to be that company again we would win real awards!

How dare you play the hero and team player for your boss and then come back here and act like you are so put upon. You obviously either get some satisfaction out of being the guy everyone looks to or else you're a victim and need to cry somewhere else. We all know the company, any company, will try to take all of what you have to give and then some. So figure out why you're putting up with this and then do something about it.

It is apparent you never had to work in outside plant. You had turfs , geographical areas you were responsible for. Years ago different disciplines were fictionalized. Within the last six years the functions were all rolled up into the turf responsibilities. I new every discipline . The rest of my fellow workers were one trick ponies. I was taken advantage of because of my knowledge and work ethic. Does that concept sink in with you. I was an hourly paid manager but not getting paid the 60 hour weeks I averaged the last three years. I of course complained many times but it fell on deaf ears. You sound like an entitled second level or above that accomplished nothing except kissng A $$. I bet your very good at it aren't you?

If they revise the LTI, all I can say is IT'S ABOUT TIME. They eliminated LTI in 2008 for everyone below director. Its long past time to ELIMINATE LTI for the Greedy class (Director and above). Many employees will be losing their jobs soon. The least they can do is give up this executive perk.

Here's food for thought: they are changing how directors are being compensated to reduce costs - a bit higher salaries but lower long-term incentive. This is because the stock is s---ing wind. Lowell and the board will do whatever it takes to maintain the dividend and get to that 10B in cost savings.

So three things happen - fewer employees, lower pay, and lower severance to help maintain the dividend. Given there are zero new areas where the company can make money (including the Oath cluster f**k) its going to be a sad, sad death spiral.

In the meantime, the patricians will hide in Building 4 at Basking Ridge will ride the gravy train as long as possible before they are fired, but say it's because they want to move in new directions. That's the Walden story.

I still can't quite get my arms around the idea that people feel like they are entitled to something more for doing their job than what their contract says they get.

We've all had to pick up more work as others have left or been let go. But in theory we all get more productive with time. I do what it took several to do years ago. Maybe some don't get more productive, but the company that pays your paycheck has every right to try to get all the productivity they can out of you for the time you are at work.

Not true. I busted my A $$ for the last 15 years of my 30 year career outlasting dozens of far lesser people only to get their workload as a reward . Last year after the strike I told my manager I want a RIF. I asked him again at the end of the year and again at my year end appraisal in February of this year. None available. I walked out the door this past February 28th. They couldn't even give me the standard Rif pkg after carrying their sorry A $$ s for all those years. The Gatt rate was so low I would have lost a years salary off my lump sum pension if i stayed. I more then made up the severance salary by leaving when I did and they took it up the A $$ trying to replace my production and knowledge of the area. I am still smiling 😂
