Nice...November 8th...just in time for Thanksgiving.

Cisco Beat Fall Thanksgiving Tips!

** Time to get LR'd and have some stuffing? Don't drink too much alcohol and get in a fistfight with relatives during Thanksgiving!

** Don't go into the kitchen, all your relatives will do is say they are sorry you lost your job.

** Stay out on the porch and polish off those Budweisers with fellow LR'd collegues. Avoid family.

Just hired in EMEA while your comments about needing to stay current are correct your denigration of people is off base and it is quite disgusting how you blame the victim. Cisco is laying off people who have current skills. Cisco is not investing in training people. Cisco is replacing skilled people with junior people to save money. I took the voluntary package in 2011. I stayed employed and gained new skills. I left Cisco as a 10. I got promoted to an 11 when I took my new job. In the last two years I interviewed two times with former managers at Cisco both of whom wanted to hire me back but they told me that they could only bring me back as a 10. This was after 5 to 6 years of further experience working for competitors with provable achievements in software defined networking which is a focus for Cisco. Cisco is all about cutting costs no matter what the outcome.

Advice for Cisco employees

Employed at Cisco more than 4 years: Hide. After working at Cisco, you no longer have marketable skills in the industry. Cisco buzzwords are meaningless outside of Tasman Dr.

Employed at Cisco less than 4 years: Find another job ASAP!

@1bsq - "not so junior" people getting hired today would not be wasting their time looking at this site....You are full of $hit. Good luck. Don't get too comfortable and when the honeymoon wears off, come back to this site and spew your positive attitude then. Cisco is known for "reinvesting resources" from one group to another...You happen to fit into today's flavor of the week where they are hiring. This company has a long way to go as it tries to stabilize from a hw manufacturer to sw & services company...The road to transformation will be full of pot holes and closures. Get used to it and don't get comfortable. This is your new reality my friend.

@Q3PVnnb-1bsq Rubbish rumours. I have just been hired by Cisco in EMEA in a not-so-junior role. If there would be layoffs next week, would they make an offer to me today?

Ahh the naivety of the the new to Cisco. It brings a tear to my eye to think of he wide-eyed innocence where you think that there is logic behind Cisco decisions.

I was at Cisco for every lay-off round from their very first one until the one in August of 2016 where I finally got hit. I can tell you first hand there is no logic especially in the last few years.

Cisco has adopted a model of using layoffs to move Opex from one group to another. That means they can and do lay off people in one group while hiring people (often less qualified for a particular role than people being laid off) in another group. They also actively lay off people to reduce costs, getting rid of full-times and bringing in contractors in a "different role" or hiring people several grades below the person laid off for a "different role".

Get a life folks. In this world there are two types of people: Those who keep up-to-dated and in-shape and those who focus on whinning about why they cannot do the same. The latter are a bunch of losers and deserve what's coming to them.

This industry is a cut-throat place with rapid growths and changes in all sectors. What used to be changes every year a decade back, is now every quarter. That is technology. Shape up or ship out -

this is a NO WHINER zone.

This industry requires us to be ever-vigilant, disciplined and agile mentally and skill-wise. You relax, you pay the price. No amount of racism will change that. If you are a laggard, don't expect the company to pay you for lounging around. This is a business, not a charity. it needs to be profitable.

I hope these layoffs will not impact all the innovative projects. Some managers learned an interesting trick in PowerPoint where the slides have animations.

Congratulations to those leaving the sinking ship. Hope they find greener ways. Looks like Mike or David or Jimmy or George or whoever is making these excel sheet calls is having a blast behind that computer screen late at night when he's super drunk. Who's wearing the red nose these days in ME?

20 got canned in Saudi office yesterday!

We’re down to 37 employees from 300 employees back in 2007...

Couple of more quarters and the office shut down. They would probably keep few AMs/SEs working from home.

The ship is sinking!

Johnny made the right move before getting the blame for Chucky’s stupid decisions...

Another Nortel story...

Cisco is history!
