I was a GE spain based employee and spanish national that was transferred to US a few years ago with GE. I am now on the US payroll. The severance payout in Spain is up to two years. if I get laid off in the US do I have any chance to claim i should get the spanish severance?

Severance will be in accordance with the payroll you are currently on. They will count all your GE service ( inside and outside US) to calculate number of weeks of payment . It will not be anywhere close to what you would get in Spain. Depending on your immigration status , you can apply for state unemployment benefits. If you are on temporary work visa ( H1B) , you will have to leave the country or find another job with an employer willing to get it transferred ( within 30 days) .

What division of GE are you in ?

temporary assignment or permanent? Resident status in the US (perm resident, US citizen, h1B visa)?
