Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

It's not just Humana

The entire industry is in a major downturn, and I mean MAJOR. This list is only the past week or two, and we all know how many layoffs are not reported because companies are desperate to hide them.

Two points made on this website contributed the most to our downfall: the failed Aetna merger and growing too big and too fast. That is my opinion anyway. ACA was a disaster for Humana also.

How utterly moronic! Trump has not cut Medicare or Medicaid. Try finding the facts before you post idiotic comments. Humana overall has suffered from the collapse of the ACA. That's why they are doing company wide cuts. HAH could no longer sustain as is due to low membership. Membership is down due to increase in premiums. When the program was smaller it was much more successful. HAH grew too big too fast and the overhead costs: ie salaries and benefits are covered by increasing premiums. Simple business. Trump has ZERO to do with what's going on!!!!!

Trump card is relevant. He cuts Medicare and Medicare advantage plans, like Humana, get less money. The big boo boo was failing to plan for what if the Aetna merger failed Insufficient marketing, poor enrollment last year I wonder if Broussard kept his 17.5 in 2018

Good post.

Thank you OP.

Nurses are not overpaid, if you walked in our shoes for a day, you'd know what I am talking about.

The list of news pieces is amazing OP - thanks for sharing this - I had no clue it's this deep.

You've omitted Molina (link here &molina-healthcare ) - you can see the October carnage here - https://www.thelayoff.com/molina-healthcare

Yeah, I wouldn’t call it “greed” that motivated many of the phc’s to pursue social work degrees. Nobody has ever said, “I’m going to be a social worker so I can get rich.”

Low to mid 40’s is not “overpaid.”

I put my heart into helping people all day, pay off my college loans which gave me the education I needed to get hired for this job, take care of family, mortgage, and work hard all week - and make 43K.

Overpaid? Really?

I understand layoffs are financial decisions. False reassurances, in the other hand, one after another, are unnecessary and cruel.

@dws- that’s exactly what this is about. Greed. New leadership always translates into cutting costs to make their pockets bulge even more.

It’s not about blaming anyone for the layoffs. It’s about not being transparent, which is what Humana claims to stand by. It’s about decency and humanity. The way they facilitated the layoffs this week was secretive and down right dirty. Leadership never gives a definitive answer. Instead, they give a three minute answer which consists of mumbo-jumbo. They should be honest and make their associates aware that their positions may be impacted by the upcoming layoffs. But they don’t. Instead they give false hope and pretend everything’s gonna be okay..

I don’t care who anyone blames or doesn’t blame. I am, however, getting out of health insurance industry.

I think the point may be to quit blaming Humana leadership for this as it's the nature of the beast. Current regulations and sky-rocketing premiums have led to this across the industry. It's not a stable industry.
