Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Can't afford health insurance

Health insurance with a crappy high deductible is 40% of my pay. That is a no deal. :(

Hopefully next on the POTUS schedule is finally getting rid of obamacare! Healthcare needs an overhaul for sure, it is way too expensive.

I get that it is expensive, but the company is paying part of it which is great considering how the company is doing right now. If you don't believe check out the rates if you try to buy it on your own.

Taking care of employees is good for productivity and loyalty - it's good business. So of course Sears doesn't do it.

I'll tell you what I was told by a store manager..."it's not the company's responsibility to take care of you..." isn't that such a nice thing to say!

It does vary widely by state. I only had 3 choices with the high deductible (the cheapest plan) plan costing me $275 a month. That's with a $4500 annual deductible. It's basically catastrophic coverage. As with a previous poster, I also used to negotiate rates for my employer's health insurance. Believe you me, Sears can definitely do better for it's employees.

@ixza Yes $100 or so for an individual per month. High deductible with obviously a HSA which must be contributed to in order to make it worth it. That is what I am doing. Still far less than out on the open market as I checked that too. It all just depends on each individual. This works for me as I am able to contribute to the HSA and I get to take that money with me if I leave or something happens as well as get to roll over the money every month. It could be a good option for some.

The insurance for 100 a month is for one person. I just did my selections for next year the other day. There was only 2 choices a high coverage for around 200 a check and a low for around d 50 per check. Maybe the cost is different in every state. And I am on this board for info and to share info. I am no chearleader for Shc. In all truth I hope they close my store and was a little disappointed when we were not on the list on Thursday.

ACM, there is no such thing as a $100 insurance being offered up. My Blue Cross is $490 per pay period just for myself and spouse. Makes me think you are on this board for different reasons.

My choices from Sears were severly limited and there was no low cost insurance under $100 in my choices. I only had 3 choices to choose from from Sears.

The deductible is only 700. And 400 a month is the new price for next year. This year I have been paying 440 a month so it actually went down for next year

Well low cost insurance through sears is under 100 a month so if that is 40% of your pay maybe you need to get another job. I pay over 400 a month at sears for myself but it is my choice.
