Unlimited Vacation Policy in 2018

What would happen to our accrued vacation when HR transitions to "Unlimited Vacation Policy" in 2018? Are we forced to sell the accrued vacation or can we still take the vacation during the traditional time? Our beloved Broadcom works with this policy as well as NXP. I heard from a HR source that this policy will take affect somewhere in 2018 timeframe.

When my old company was acquired by Broadcom they paid us for all accrued vacation in cash. I liked the policy. I know it benefits the company but it can also benefit the employee. Especially if you are new and might be only getting two weeks under the normal policy.

So this might happen if the acquisitions actually happen? That is only speculation my friend. Until HR announces a change the current policy should stay in place.

Broadcom and NXP have both unlimited vacation policy, then which part of the fake news is fake, HR cheerleader?

Fake news! There is no unlimited vacation policy for 2018.

Company will probably shut down and force two weeks vacation at end of December to minimize accrued vacation payouts. Don't expect to benefit from the new policy. With the acquisition work and response to Broadcom take over, do you really think you'll have time to take vacation?

Not like you have a say in the matter. So just keep quiet and bend over and take it up the anus and say “thank you my master, thank you thank you”

Unlimited stock and immediate vesting sounds like a better deal, can we trade?

It just means they will pay you less when laying off.

I am from broadcom. this policy was invented by nflx and widely adopted.

I am still taking more than 4 weeks vacation each year and most people around me are doing the same unless you have a mean manager which is your problem.

indeed you get no comp for pto when leaving that is why you should take as much as vacation if possible each year.

"Unlimited Vacation Policy" is the latest dirty trick of corporations to reduce benefits

The "Unlimited Vacation Policy" is the latest dirty trick that Corporate America has come up with. The advantage of the "Unlimited Vacation Policy" for the corporation is:

1- Erases the financial liability in their books for "unused vacations".

2- When they lay you off, they wouldn't pay you anything for your otherwise "unused vacations"

3- employees get less vacation time in practice because they can only take it when they are "done with their assignments" which is totally subjective and may never happen. Moreover employees feel that they have been given a favor when they take it.

4- Employees worry that if they take vacations, they would get a lower performance review grade compared to the ones that do not request vacation and keep working. This would deter them from asking for it.

5- Manager's cronies get more vacation than others and there is no mechanism to regulate it.

6- It works as a good propaganda statement for HR for recruiting to say they have "Unlimited Vacation Policy".
