Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Why Costco does it better then Sams Club

Why Costco does it better then Sams Club, they invest in there employees by paying them a higher hourly rate and set the expectations, they do not take ebt they target households with income of $50,000 and up and carry a better line of product to cater to these members, they invest in a larger Night stocking crew to stock the entire store in one night so forklifts are not on the floor disturbing members from shopping and no stocking is done during the day. They employ more cashiers and runners to keep the lines down at the registers and they don’t ask members to upgrade or apply for credit as they are checking out. They promote from within the company not from the outside like Sams has been doing the last few years or more due to the lack of talent within the clubs. Only downside for Costco is that they are behind in the online Shopping sector which I hear will be changing soon. At Sams Club there goal is to transform Club Shopping to online Shopping and Club pick up only which will lead to more job cuts and the elimination of cashiers, managers and team leads. The retail world is evolving and online shopping and convenience is the future. With technology evolving in a faster pace these days the industry will be hiring more programmers and designers.

Perfectly put, @QvUcsON-1atl. Costco actually invests in its employees because they see them as a resource, not a necessary burden. That makes the biggest difference.

Unions are oh so not a bad thing like the video they show us when we get hired. I laughed so hard at how they demonized them. "Workers Unions" are just that. Workers United to have one HUGE voice. When management is picking on someone to get rid of them, the worker just has to file a formal grievance with their Union representative, who is at your beckon call, and will show up with your Union attorney to investigate, and your club managers have to provide legitimate proof as to why you were coached or reprimanded/cut hours...etc...etc....And for like $5 a paycheck? We spend more than that on scratch Lotto Tickets hoping to hit it big instead of investing it on job insurance. Just like your car insurance, you do not plan on crashing any day, but you have that reassurance that if you were to, you know that help will be on the way. The changing of our raises from monetary levels to percentages, and everyone gets a trophy mentality, would not have happened without "OUR UNIFIED" permission. And if we do not like something unanimously we can all "STAND UP" and protest and we will be backed by our tens of thousands Brothers and Sisters in arms across this Great Nation. The company will humbly come to the negotiations table to make sure we do not walk out so they do not lose "MILLIONS" of dollars per region daily. Our hard work, our blood, sweat, and tears makes this company "BILLIONS" of dollars on a yearly basis. You would think that they could staff it properly, train the newbies properly, which in turn can become better managers in the long run. Instead of the sink or swim mentality. They have proven they do not care to, so, that is where we "ALL" have the constitutional right to "UNITE" and "STAND UP" and demand respect for the worker. It is up to us to rally our Co-Workers (in secret to not get fired or let go for some petty reason, like the meat department in the past that "UNIONIZED" and that whole department was eliminated). The Managers will not benefit from Unionizing. So keep it between you and your co-workers. Have meetings with your Local Union Representatives at their offices. Walmart and Sam's Club fear a Unionized workforce. Only because then they would "HAVE TO" give us the respect and pay our hard work deserves. Remember the long nights, the short days off, getting called in, filling in other departments to save the day for your Team, giving up your weekends to help another associate out, all your sacrifices for all your many years working at the job you loved........only to be eliminated by self check out, a Change Machine, a Membership Kiosk, a Scan and Go app, click and pull, and Club Pick Up. That all still might happen......but at least we can say we fought for our livelihood, we fought for what we loved and that is all of our Brothers and Sisters out there with families, college tuitions, mortgages, car payments, our customers and members who deserve a smiling face at the register, at the Membership desk, at the café serving them quality food, who understand just by a look and body language that they have had a long day and would enjoy a quick joke or smile, maybe even a hug from a familiar face. It is time us workers finally join hands and stand up for what is "RIGHT". The ball is in our court. Call your Local Workers Union Representatives and get the ball rolling across this Great Nation. Let's give that hornets nest a good kicking. It's time for "JUSTICE".

All associates used to be able to voice their opinion. The open door does not work trust me. The associates need someone on their side and if this means the union then do be it. If we had Union some of these long term being eliminated could have been saved to other departments. They give you a pitiful severance and send you on your way sad. The knowledge they are letting go they will never get back. They instead want new and non experienced people running the clubs, karmas a b--ch when it comes back at you!

That’s correct they don’t care about how long you’ve been with the company. The higher ups will stomp on the little guy to the end. If they keep killing us they get another million dollar bonus.

during the depression Sam Waltons dad had a job where he went around evicting the owners who could not pay there mortgages. This was in Oklahoma I believe. We have seen movies about how bad it was for those evicted. Ruthlessly kicked off their land by a banking machine that did not care. The farms were bought by large corporations and huge farms emerged. Corporate farms.

Our company has the same attitude towards it's little people. We are in it's way. Our company has had this attitude towards it's low level employees from day one. Sam just was real good at seeming to care. He helped a few hourly individuals making it look like he would help us all but in fact even from the beginning local managers targeted and eventually got rid of those who were not in love with the company,

Even to this very day when bad news is rolled out our managers have been brainwashed into acting as though those of us being hurt should in fact be happy about it because our pain is helping the Company , After all had we been truly engaged we would have desired to make sacrifices for the company.

One last thing , When Sam's dad was driving around evicting his fellow southerners knowing many of them were starving and becoming homeless to boot Sam was riding along . Now the machine Sam built thinks nothing of hurting those it used.

Just like Sam's dad who was willing to kick people off their farms so that he could keep what was his , those at the top of Walmart now will hurt all of us all the while making sure to keep all their millions. Maybe Doug , Gisele , John and all the rest should try living on a pittance hoping they still have a job tomorrow............

I have to say I hate these threads where someone takes a reply and makes an entire thread out of it. We don't need more junk posts here when we're trying to see when they're going to fire us.

I would not be so quick to criticize the Costco union. if we had the union we would not be loosing our jobs!!! I for one never wanted the union to be apart of our company, but after seeing the thoughtless way they are treating most of these associates I think it would be a wake-up call for the home office.

They are also unionized so that higher pay doesn’t all go to them.

And I’m sure they are hiring. Sounds like you should put in yours.
