Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Does Sears have any TVs in store?

I'm seeing nothing in their inventory online? The selection is bad enough compared to a bestbuy but when I filter down to the store level, there's nothing at most stores around me.

Eddie must be waiting until his liquidation sale starts. He might be able to unload the old tech stuff to nerdy retro people and save some money on the disposal fees. He sure has saved a ton of money in our kmart store by not replacing the toilet from the 70s with a new 100 dollar model from this decade.

We have a metric ton of old CRT security monitors (decommissioned since we don't have loss prevention anymore), tons of PC towers and desktops from 1986 to a few years ago, tons of old registers and a handful of the old IBM green screen terminals hiding in the dark recesses of our store. Boxes of scanner wands, card terminals, cables, keyboards and internal computer parts.

We went to some kind of meeting to a store about 50 miles away and they have even more than we do, just in the office area alone. They even had what looked like a mainframe, which was some big beige box on casters the size of a small chest freezer.

This is @2mrf. @2lfd is correct. This has been the case for at least 15 years in most areas (I don't know the specifics for every municipality in the country, obviously). I have experience with this from personally having to bundle up pallets of replaced CRT monitors/TVs to be sent off to an e-waste disposal company for a hefty fee, that the business I was working for would've loved to not have to pay but they had gotten in trouble with their dumpster service company for trying to sneak them in with the regular trash one too many times before.

I doubt its free for businesses who are held to different environmental standards than individuals. CRT TV's contain "hazardous waste."

It's all sitting there in our backroom. Witness to probably a better time in our company. When we actually had customers a plenty. It actually makes me sad. When black friday the store was actually packed and thanksgiving too. I was actually appalled at this year's black friday sales. There were 3 people in line. So sad. I'm waiting for the end.

Electronics recycling is free in my area (I think it's free in most areas). Give me a break.

Eddie is going to have to pay the fee soon when we liquidate. Or maybe a few old geezers will pay us 5 bucks for the tvs. And while they are they they can pick up a forklift from the 90s that has a bad engine. Its been sitting there for ages. Just been sitting there since covered in dust. Or maybe a Kodak picture station from the early 2000s too. All great assets to sell for our future. Not kidding.

@2eca Businesses aren't allowed to dispose of CRTs (tube TVs/monitors) in regular trash, and Eddie doesn't want to pay the fees for proper disposal.

My kmart has some 6 tube tvs in back that were used for loss prevention back in the day. They are covered in 10 years of dust. Maybe we could put them out for the blowout sale too. Too bad we shipped out the remaining vcr tapes. We had 10 of them and shipped them out to a closing store. As for the tvs I don't know why we are even keeping them. Must be one of eddies assests that he has on the books.

@1fyr Exactly what @1khp said Sears is one of the worse if not the bottom of the barrel when it comes to treating their employees properly in retail. I have a friend that works in Walmart he has had less time than me and has already gotten raises. Yet I have been longer than him and the only raises I have been given to me are by the government. Also to add more hour cuts and more work has been given to me ever since the lead position in my department got eliminated.

At the Wood field mall Sears store in Schaumburg Ill... the entire electronics dept now has a large mattress department in it's place. Also, in the apparel departments the merchandise was spread out to avoid some areas looking bare....whereas at Kohl's in Schaumburg the merchandise was packed so tight to the aisles it was difficult to walk through.... that store was filled to the rafters... shows how our competitors are getting more product to their stores.... also almost every retailer has 40-50-60 percent off so our deep discounts just match everyone else's. Even Lord & Taylor at Wood field mall had these kinds of discounts...

@1fyr, I think it's pretty safe to say that no matter how poorly other US retailers treat their employees, they can't be worse than SHC.

Bought my TV at Wal Mart. Love it. Sears s---s. It treats it's associates like sh--. Wal mart at least does things for their associates! No one shops at a Sears anymore. Too much has been revealed. You want sales...do a turn around. Give your damn associates raises. Show your a caring company. It's over Sears...move on.

We have maybe 6 tvs on display but I don't think anyone buys them.

I remember starting with Sears in the electronics department in 2013. It wasn't super busy but I made good money for a college student. Then availability tanked and it was harder to get Sharp, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and LG.

People walked in, couldn't buy anything because it was two weeks out (or more), and so they left for Best Buy or other stores.

We have a small electronics area just two aisles and tvs on display but they have to be ordered. We no longer stock them anymore I think eventually, electronics will be history at our store.

We removed our remaining TV's down, so people would not ask about them. We are unable to order any. It is sad!

Kmarts still seem to have a few TVs. They're all overpriced and more are stolen than sold.

Most stores removed their electronics departments years ago. They may stock a few this time a year. But only for door busters.
