@fqz there were no more “old” workers than “young” or “middle-aged” layed off this last round. Yes, it’s harder on older people, but there is no age discrimination going on. In fact, I think GE is reasonably generous with their early retirement packages. The toughest age range is, IMO, 50-59...too young for early retirement offers but too old to easily find a new job with comparable compensation.

GE Power has close to 92000 employees. 35000 were added when we bought Alstom. 12000 reduction still seems small.....

GE is throwing its older workers under a bus unless they wanted to retire anyway.

I worked for Alstom Power in Europe before GE came. I embraced them at first, based upon their past reputation and perception that they had the financial means to invest in us, which they repeatedly promised, with their usual chipmunk-positive "awesome," "excited" nonsense....just before they did massive layoffs. I was with them 2 years in a management role of a global service group. I listened and watched for a year as they dismantled most of what Alstom had accomplished. Then it became clear that nothing was working, that gee-whiz kids were being put in charge over experienced people, and that it was nothing but hot air and hype, total unadulterated nonsense. Rubbish. It was disgusting.

GE Power only has a little over 55,000 employees., Not 300,000. Your thinking GE as a whole but the cuts are coming from Power. So when yiu look at the 12,000 + the layoffs that have already taken place over the past year or so they are GREATLY reducing the Power headcount.

That number also includes what has been done in the US to date but with the way it has been done who knows how many that is. Any idea?

So where are a majority of the 12K coming from? The 4500 identified in Europe is not even half.
