Most of the guys I know from the quality group are exactly how you describe them: clueless!!! They are shaking now with the potential layoff coming.
@1uyg, you Rr missing the point. All these things matter and q lacks all! Moving elsewhere m8ght fix some or not. Nothinv is guaranteed. 10k more base pay could be only guaranteed thing. So why stay?

What there is in SD outside of Q depends on you. If you don't know anything because you let Q pigeonhole you for a decade and now you are an expert on a handful of bits and don't know anything else, then you screwed yourself.

Being assigned interesting tasks, appreciative management, real career growth opportunities, management commitment to keep key projects in the country... these would be the things that should motivate people.
If all you look for in another job is „10k more base pay“, then that is all you‘re gonna get.

Not everybody is perfect. Not every manager is good. People are encouraged to have a sincere dialog with their manager before taking such a big decision.
If things are so bad, the IOS is a good option to start fresh.

i know one very good guy who went to intel because he was stuck with a terrible manager at q who didn‘t do anything for his career advancement. so no, not all people who went to intel in san diego are bad.
he quit though after a while, because he couldnt deal with the infighting and site politics. apparently every decision there is driven by the desire to make the sd site look good, even if they have to make other sites look bad to achieve that. no room for innovation or teamwork.
oh and they dont pay well either.

There are not enough hardware companies to absorb a huge layoff if Broadcom buys QCOM.
It will make old layoffs look like nothing.
Does it matter? If Intel adds 10-15k to your base. Who cares as long as they fairly pay
Just don‘t go to Intel. I know quite a few people who went there from Q, and I wasn‘t sad to see any of them leave. Not a single medium/high performer among them, and lots of personal issues. I know of at least one guy who probably would have been fired for being a major deekhead when he quit and joined Intel.
And no, this is not general Intel hate. I know a few people who work for non-SD Intel, and I wish nothing but the best for them. Happy to have competition! I can get why people want to leave Q, but don‘t go from bad to worse!
