Focal will be easy this year.

If Age > 40:

SSL = 4

Else:

SSL = brown_skin ? 2 : 3

Ah, focal season. Back-stabbing and taking credit for others' work must be at an all time high right now. Glad I left that $hithole for much greener pastures at Nvidia.

That s---s. I knew of people who successfully challenged theirs 3 yrs ago, but looms like things have changed. It's encouraging to see that several people who appealed their ISP in the ACT did get reinstated, though. I guess that once you get a bad focal, you just have to look for another job, or if you can't find something that pays as well, just ride it out to the end.

My manager will take all the credit of good ideas from team, he needs to appear to be very talented to upper management, even through he s---s. If you try to get visibility, you will get low performance. Our best engineer in the team got ISP last year.

Anyone who gets a low stock for anything other than a major f-- up needs to challenge it. The stock levels are predatory and are often assigned arbitrarily. Managers will try to point the finger and claim that employees should know what to do, not have to be told, etc. But it's the managers responsibility to set and document expectations, and if they didn't do this, the focal rating will likely not hold up when taken to HR.

Two years ago, BK said we were changing the Focal process. What happened? As far as I can tell, no changes.

@sjw there is no under-performing manager. Have you seen any criteria to evaluate a manager? They don't do actual work, lots of them don't know how to plan any actual work. If project does not go well, the engineer who does the work will get low performance.

@sjw - Managers will not be touched. Loser managers are safe under the biggest loser of them all, BK. At least PSO had the balls to cut 1000 managers at the start of SET.

@beq - Keep dreaming. Maybe 0.8% if you are lucky.

Will there be management cuts in this Focal round or are all the under-performing managers safe?
