Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Where did the 100k layoff number come from?!

Okay, where in the world did this 100,000 employees to be laid off by General Electric number that I see all over the place come from?

I understand that we have a higher number to achieve in savings, but 100k seams out of the realm of possibility. Did I miss an announcement or something or are people simply wild-guessing?

The 100k came from the number of employees not layoffs. It has been reported that with the asset sell off and layoffs GE will be down from the 2015 total of 333,000 to about 235K. I believe we are about 295k not including recent 12k in europe. So about 50k to go if you believe that number of 100k. Anyway hopefully most will be because of asset selloffs not layoffs. Look for early next year announcement of some offices closing and being consolidated.

Where did you see this? Could be possible with layoffs plus businesses sold off (Trans, Lighting, etc add up quick)

100k is still only about 30% of the company. GE could continue "normally" for a few quarters on the remainder of headcounts.
