Closing Stores in January

HR has a big meeting in early January. Expect to hear about store closings and store management restructures around the 11th of the month.

Just found the posting on the Wire. They are requiring an exception process for demotions for field management.

@2bgx, Walmart has always topped the nepotism scale, starts at the top...

Especially like the status quo keeping Directors and Sr. Directors who refuse to step into the current century and automate work because doing so means they would lose headcount and wouldn't have the magic number of people to stay in a leadership position. These same people keep under performing associates for the same reason.

Ultimately, such selfishness hurts the company. Adhering to the status quo is one of the biggest reasons companies lose a market leading position.Talented people don't want to work in that environment, we move on. What a joke that place is.

There supposedly will be an exception process most likely so they can keep their favorites and nepotism can continue to run rampant and unchecked. The closings and home office layoffs will be announced mid-January, which is perfect timing for the new policy restricting demotions.

@xkv, is this just for store associates or HO associates or both? Does that mean for instance if someone at HO who is a Band 8 is laid off, they can't apply during the 2 month period for positions that are less than a Band 8? If so, it points to Walmart really trying hard to push long term associates out, and especially for those who are considered highly compensated.

Record high stocks, record high corporate tax cuts, record high layoffs and offshoring at Walmart

HO sending communication to stores next week about no longer allowing associates to demote. Prepare for big cuts next month. The timing of this announcement along with planned cuts in January will make it so long term displaced associates are not put into other positions making top pay.
