Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Shortsighted Staffing Model

Up here in the Washington claims office we have LDU adjusters taking 9-10 claims a day because of inadequate staffing. Its been than way for 4 or 5 months now since the mass auto layoffs. These employees are so overrun with calls that the rest of our office has to take the overflow calls from their segment. This is on top of my own work to do. Customers are livid. Terrible leadership being shown across the board during this CI/QFC/VA rollout. Thanks Glen.

Glad to be retired from that rat race! Keep the pension payments coming.

You’re right on the California decision, but there have been no contradictory decisions since that would change carriers approach. You’re also right on one of the “tests “ for exempt status, (not “responsibility”,but several others) and with the exception of the California decision, all other states/courts have found Allstate adjuster roles meet those tests.

I guess other carriers see it differently. Familiar with the California ruling, but I thought another component was the responsibility and decision making involved. Anyway that California decision was years ago. Things have changed significantly since. Not arguing just frustrated like most of the rest.

This issue has been litigated. Claim representatives are exempt from OT, with the exception of California. They’re not treated like call center employees, there are goals and metrics, and the work is based on a 40 hour week. As with any exempt job, there are times when additional time is required. The exception, not the rule.

If they’re going to treat you like a call center and pay you salary without OT consideration, silly not to want collective bargaining.

Because every time the choice has been presented to employees they reject it. Every time.

Expectations, metrics, hours.....why these companies don’t have to deal with organized labor I’ll never understand.

Up here in North Dakota, we have adjusters taking 22-24 Claims a day, working 20 hours a day since the layoffs.

My reaction exactly. I’m not a leader, but speak for yourself. Don’t call me a peon.

It’s interesting that you self esteem is so low that you call yourself a peon. I started as a trainee, and never considered myself a peon. That’s unfortunate for you.

I’m not in management. The data is real. You’re dealing in rumor and anecdote. I see reports. By he way, any adjuster producing 7 claims a day, needs to leave IMMEDIATELY and become an independent and be paid by the claim. With that level of production, he or she can do much better. If it’s true. We’ll see. I’m guessing they’re not going anywhere.

Kills me why some members of mgmt. have to monitor this page at all to defend the faith. They are not going to convince or sway anyone who posts a negative comment. Its not like when the guy barks "Fact" you are wrong, someone is going suddenly bask his CSL/CI glow. Now if he said "FACT", I am just trolling to tune you up, I would get it. You would think anyone that self righteous and assured would not even care what the Peons think all.

Just came back from a night out with some old friends from Allstate. I feel so fortunate that I got a severance package and retired, they all absolutely hate their jobs. Such a shame what Shapiro has done.

Unfortunately for you, I’m in a job where I can see all the numbers countrywide , and no CSA in the northeast is above 4 1/2 cars a day. That’s a fact.

May be the facts where you are but not in the Northeast. I have the facts too. They have everyone but the janitor looking at cars and 6 or 7 is the norm.

I work in one of the centralized dispatch operations. No one is getting 7 a day regularly. Depending on the mix of initial estimates and supplements, it’s 4-6, and like the previous poster said, we’re producing a little less than 4 a day. There are some areas that are getting 3 a day.

Daily field production averages under 4 per day. Fact. Did one adjuster get 7 assignments (a mix of supplements and initial estimates) one day. Maybe. That happened before before the layoffs too.

The fact is, adjusters aren’t working twice as long, or twice as hard as they did before the layoffs, when production averaged 3.5 a day.

So, are facts and kook aid the same thing ? Unfortunately, you’re talking to someone who actually has facts.

It’s just like someone who drank the kool aid to call others “morons” when confronted with facts that they just won’t admit. Field adjuster are absolutely getting up to 7 claims a day in my area and many have already left or just didn’t reapply when the company realized they screwed up and tried to hire them back. Pretty much the only people left are the ones who have no choice. Continue living in your dream world and have a nice life.

The “peons” that are left have the same daily production as before the layoff’s. Since shops don’t stay open for us until 9:00 at night, the 7 a day is a lie. Most shops (over 70% in some markets) are having supplements handled in HOURS, when they use the VA process. Surprising that “most adjusters are looking for jobs”, since turnover is lower than before the layoffs. Moron.

“Mass auto layoffs”.......less than 6 adjusters laid off in Washington. Lie #1. What do LDU workloads have to do with a half dozen uto adjusters laid off ? Lie #2. 9-10 Claims per day ? Exaggerated by a factor of 50%. Lie #3.

Facts matter.

You got that right, they work the peons that are left like rented mules. DEs and CAT adjusters are out writing estimates because of the cuts in personnel. Supplement inspections are out 8 to 10 days and many of the shops that they want to do all of their administrative work are wising up and telling them to go scratch their a--! Staff appraisers getting 7 claims a day and most are looking for other jobs. Greedy management has sacrificed everything thing Allstate stood for in order to gain short term profits.

You think the execs dont know or are "short sighted"?

LOL!

No, they understand fully, and dont care.

Why do the peons never consider that the execs simply dont care? Always think they want what's best for the peons or customers?

Not bad leadership, good, at achieving THEIR objectives, not yours.
