Thread regarding Sears layoffs

HA Commission

Hi there! Just accepted position as an HA straight commission salesperson. What kind of sales per month do I need to generate to make the 50,000 grand that they say should be easy. I understand selling protections help but like do I need to sell 15,000 a month as well?

It's possible depending on your market but it isn't super common. I'd say most HA associates aren't making that. I'd even bet money that most full time HA associates aren't making that.

@1ass You must work in real good market. To those of us working in economically challenged areas or run down malls it’s very hard. Kudows you though!!!

50k is easy to make, I mad 62 first full year after leaving Hooters.

You just have to work it. You can sell 10-15k easy on a Saturday or Sunday. I’d be embarrassed if I didn’t break a million in sales by Labor Day.

I say you will figure out really quickly how you will do. If it works for you stay on. If not obviously you will find something else. I am sure commission %s are posted someplace for thge associates.

@1rqi This must be ridiculous you sell one 1 million and you might make 35k thats disappointing.

@1jfn Thanks for the insight so see you have to hunt your sales to keep up those numbers. Just sad how much you sold and to me its getting under paid. They should allow some type of bonus for doing so well.

Any salesman with such great way of selling could do better anywhere. That means in my store the salesman's in my store don't even make that much its just sad how much the commission has been cut.

@jdr- anywhere between maybe 30-35k. Depends on commission rates. They have dropped significantly over the last few years especially, and so has foot traffic. Everything the last poster said is correct. They can advertise the position as having the potential for a high salary because technically it’s totally up to you. Except it’s really not. Orders get cancelled ALL THE TIME because delivery is an absolute nightmare. 50k or anything near it is extremely unlikely, even for the most motivated sales people.

@1jdr From @1rqi's post, apparently $1m sales = $35k pay, these days.

I don't know what it is like now, but my last full year was 2014 and I did a little over $1,200,000. I was always 8-9% in PA's, and I really hustled credit and I think I made maybe 57,500 that year. Beginning January 2016 commissions dropped, product was harder to get and delivery was a bigger nightmare than ever. Price matching sears.com (or anywhere) lowered your overall commission by 1.2% (if I recall correctly), and any price adjustment to a product would also drop it by that %. Especially maddening would be delivery denting merchandise and having the manager credit them $50 or more for the damage, thus triggering the 1.2% commission adjust on the entire ticket. And all the sales I started getting cancelled due to back orders or delivery incompetencies!!!! I finally quit 2 months into 2016, totally stunning my store manager, who was a nice guy. If you take the job it will be full of frustration and I am sure they have come up with new ways to cheat the sales people. Good luck to you!

The Sears I used to work at is one of the busier stores. In HA, we have 3 salesmen who have hit one million in sales every year for the last few years.

I processed payroll for the store. I can assure you, 50k is an unrealistic goal. 35k if you’re really successful.

You just got hired, by Sears, so you come to the layoff website to ask about your job? Funny.

Sorry to hear you took the position. Commissions have been cut to the bone, the calculations on commissions now favor the company and online sales and the recap people will take your sales. Commissions are to go down in the new year and foot traffic is at an all time low. the SM will also take you off the sales floor to run the register and help customrs in other departments. 50k may be doable for a few but as a constant level it is near impossible

@pzy This. I have heard it from HA sales people their commission has been cut to the bone. Back in the days the top sellers made easily over 50k. Now with he way they cut commission unless you take lots of sales you might be lucky also depends where you stay and live.

What sales associate is making that type of money as suggested? Commissions have been cut drastically as well as foot steps. Sorry Op newbie.

I don't know what location you work at but typically HA is a competitive environment. The best people make the most money. If you're a good sales person 50k would be doable in some locations. If not you'll likely be negative money.

You sadly probably shouldn't have accepted the position. You'll probably be out of the job in about a year.
