Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Retail Bankruptcies already worse in 2017 than depths of 2009 Recession

Folks, we're already in a recession that's worse than 2008/2009, but the govt puts out fake stats which the media reports as truth, so everyone thinks things are fine, despite the fact they see things falling apart everywhere.

Stop believing the talking heads on TV and start looking around at what you see in front of your own eyes. And no, it's not all Amazon's fault. Online sales are only 8% of total retail sales, and Amazon is a small fraction of that 8%.

That's just another lie to cover up what's going on, like when execs try to hide layoffs. Same deal.

"EVERYONE is buying online."

Almost everyone is buying some portion of their purchases online, but for most people it's a small portion still. Only people in the largest cities could even realistically buy EVERYTHING online, and only a very small portion of them would want to.

O.P please take an economics course. Everything is going well with a few hicups. You must also be one of those people whose basement is filled with 500 pounds of rice and 1000 pounds of flour along with 500 cases of water just waiting for the economic collapse. Did you also sell everything and buy a mountain retreat during Y2K?

No. everyone doesn't just shop online. The specific people you spoke to say they shop online. There's a massive difference between the two statements. I don't understand why you don't get that.

I DO look around and I talk to everyone and always inquire. Each one is purchasing online and not all thru Amazon so stop quoting that fictitious 8% and see how many new job postings are out there. Many folks looking to fill social media and online orders positions.

With most offerring free shipping, its far cheaper than wasting gas and time for products that end up available only online anyway.

EVERYONE is buying online. Malls are dinosaurs.

Adapt or die

I was thinking the same thing...

I highly doubt we're in a recession. also keep in mind that the vast majority of statistics are made up. Especially those that try to put a numerical value on something that as large as the population of the United States. The economy appears to be in decent shape based on the values I've seen.

The article you posted is one person's opinion and they found evidence to support exact what they thought without considering other facts. Just as you post an article claiming the economy is in bad shape, it literally took me 30 seconds to find an article claiming the exact opposite.

And there are pages and pages of articles just like this one.

Your post makes you sound like an economics expert but the reality is you have absolutely no clue. Try considering all the different viewpoints before posting with such certainty.

I keep seeing the same 8% guy repeating this stat on this site over and over not sure why. Firstly the stat is at 15% for the current quarter and note it is only just a sample. The fact this ratio has gone from virtually 0 a few years back to 15 is astronomical. While paychecks have not seen the growth they should the economy is in great shape (just look at any economic indicator from imports to unemployment rate and more) we are at a ‘sugar high’ now but many predict 2018 to be a fall back to earth. Looking around me with my own eyes I see people employed, jobs, people spending, not at sears of course. I don’t believe the talking heads on tv but the facts, which you should take a look at.
