often layoff exposes the worst side of every one ,... reason we became so much dependent on money from the job... a point o ponder and work on.

When will ppl finally see it. This is just the board ops rumor mongering to get more ad revenue. Plan and simple. The stir up stuff some others get on the bandwagon and POW. Profit
"It's just business" is the absolutely worst excuse for layoffs, unless a company is going bankrupt. Otherwise, there are always better options....but they require work and planning. Shifting resources and retraining, etc. But no mgr/Dir/VP in the tech world wants to spend the time doing the hard work....they all want to hit the EASY button.
Layoffs are the worst. I would much rather fire someone that wasn't performing. RIFs leave to many open questions. Its just business doesn't provide any type of proper feed back to get better. How the hell do I keep this from happening to me!
Yeah, you're right. It's also because the present world reached the stage when everything is so fast, a lot of expenses and you have to pay for everything, rent, tax, loan, fees, everywhere and all the time, if you lost the train you might be doomed. Don't you think 200 years ago people didn't have all this stress as today when loosing a job and they were happier? Yes, the didn't have cars, phones and Internet but at least they had something to eat, but today many are not able even to plant something to eat or they have to beg for a piece of bred.
