Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Severance for hourly?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I have to ask anyway. Do people who are hourly at Sears also get severance or are we just simply shown the door with nothing?

And is there a difference between people who had worked as hourly for under a year and those who've been there for longer?

8 weeks max for a full timer..... so it does not matter whether a full timer worked there for 8 years or 40 years....they still get 8......I remember the buyouts that were given to managers and select full timers back in the late 80's/early 90's......1 week severance for every year of service.....

Oh wow. Someone I worked with at my old store was a part time HI associate but he's been there for like 10 years. He won't be compensated in any way if the store closes? That's pretty messed up.

Severance pay is only for 35 hours a week. At least it was last March 2017, when my store was closed. Full-timers only get a severance package.

Only hourly full-time employees with at least 1 year of service are eligible for severance pay when your unit closes. The amount of severance pay is determined by your years of service (at the time of termination), and the maximum amount for hourly associates is 8 weeks for someone who has worked for the company for many years. Associates must work through the conclusion of the liquidation process to be eligible for severance pay.

Part-time associates are NOT eligible for severance pay at all.

Please note that severance pay is only given for store closings and position eliminations. People do not get severance for quitting, or terminations due to misconduct, attendance, performance issues, etc.
