Intel makes all its profits from one thing, nothing of the bazillions spent over the past decade has resulted in anything and the new things recently won’t matter either.

The only reason margins are up is X86 salesman growth have slowed and intel is using 14nm depreciated factories which are nearly free to manufacture. Next two years the 10nm FUBAR will be revealed as well as the failures of the new initiatives and BK will be exposed to be the idiot 🤡 that he is

@mye - Care to enlighten us, shill? As OP pointed out, every single new initiative that has been tried has failed, with varying degrees of spectacle. FYI, PC sales are still 55% of revenue and server CPUs are about 30% more. If you think Intel will be unaffected by even a 5-10% market share loss in those areas, you are most definitely an idiot. There is not a single new source of income that can replace CPUs at this point. Maybe in 5 to 10 years if Intel succeeds with Nervana Engine and/or Mobileye stuff, but in the meantime Intel will suffer if it fails to deliver and innovate in PCs and servers.

OP here. Let's review what management have been saying for the last year.

  1. Security needed in chip design. Bought McAfee. Disaster!

  2. Need to dominate mobile. Bought infineon. Lost Apple. Lost $25B. Contra revenue.

  3. Wearables. Bought and destroyed many startups. Burnt customers literally and metaphorically.

  4. Custom foundry. No customers.

  5. Makers. Created show for BK ego. Built custom cpu for community. Withdrew from market.

  6. VR built headset. Called it the next big market. Withdrew from market.

  7. Bought altera to stop customers developing own chips. Google made own ASIC. Makes no money. Wasted $16B.

If you still think that Intel‘s future hinges on CPU sales market shares, then you are either an AMDoofus, or you if you are an Intel employee, then you have managed not to listen to anything the management has been saying in the last 5+ years. In the latter case, please go and join AMD. Please.
