My manager says I am individual contributor. What does this mean?

In my org this is the nickname for folks who failed as managers and won't ever manage again

that means you're individually contributing to the person above you. thus, the person above you doesn't have to work.

A lot of people are asking me "what does it mean to be an Individual Contributor"?
The time has come to address this very popular question.
I will use an analogy to explain it, and, as any analogy, this analogy could be somewhat limited, but, hopefully, useful.
We hear a lot of news recently about men taking advantage of subordinates, forcing them in the situations where they rather do not want to be.
In this respect we can draw certain analogy between having the Lead Role and being the man in the position of power.
Now, when it comes to the role of the Individual Contributor, this is pretty much the same as being a man in the position of power. The only difference is that when you chose to follow your dark instincts, the only person you can and will force in the situations where they rather do not want to be is your own self.
