Toys R US has the same debt issues as Sears. Many retailers were bought out by hedge funds or equity firms, and heavily borrowed against. This is a big part of why so many retail stores are closing.

Where will children go to dream of all they toys I’d toys r us closes its doors? Not the same looking on the internet at toys!! The only way to buy toys is to touch and feel and hold the packages!!
The problem is lots of retails don't innovate. The last time I went to Toys r Us it honestly looked like junk and was just selling junk. This stores don't innovate in anyway. I still look at Walmart and it seems they are putting into the store. The Walmarts in my area are fully packed still their is foot traffic day or night.
ToysRUs has been a nightmare in my area for a long time now so I'm not surprised. I don't know about their CEO so that part may be different but the rest is Sears all over again. Poorly maintained outdated grey stores with prices higher than Wal-Mart, indifferent employees, discouraging return policy, etc. No reason to shop there.
economy is fine some bad retailers retrench as others expand rapidly. 1000 new dollar general stores more TJMax etc less Macy's JCP and SHLD. Walmart sales growing.
