Thread regarding Sears layoffs

More shoppers, fewer hours

We are seeing sales pick up big time at our KMart (the latest sales and offers are actually doing their job,) but we are completely understaffed to take full advantage of it.

Half of the time we only have one cashier, and the line easily turns into an hour wait. This makes me so angry, because here we have a perfect opportunity to actually get some of our shoppers back and actually have a chance to stay open, and it is getting squandered with too few hours assigned per shift! How many people will return after having to wait for over an hour to pay for their stuff?

Can somebody explain to me please what's the point of having sales to attract people and then create a situation in the store that'll make sure they never return?

This is why sears holding is a failing company. The customer service(or the lack of) is the reason sears holding lost all of its customers. Who wants to shop in a store that you can never find anyone to help you, and after you get to the checkouts, only one register( or maybe none) are open? Customer service is essential to building a company. Employees are so busy multi tasking all the jobs that have been put on them, because the help is so little. Eddie just never could get this concept, so his customers went elsewhere.

Your SGM is just trying to make his bonus (yes they still get them).

The biggest bonus he can get is big revenue with minimal hours so he’s working you in to the ground. Our SGM showed us his package and then said to hell with it and so we are fully staffed. On the other hand we are a California store and from what I’ve heard we out here will be the last to close which is why you never see us on closing lists in spite of having the most valuable property.

well based on what I see it seems the company has given up on making a full turnaround. If you're still running a skeleton crew during the busiest time of the year by far, you are no longer making an attempt to generate profits.

More than likely you're just trying to spend the least amount of money possible to stop yourself from draining the company dry of resources too quickly. As I've said before, sears is without a doubt on life support right now. It's not trying to be fully functional anymore. The goal is purely survival and nothing else.

Someone has decided the increased potential profits aren't worth the definite increase of expensive.

I don't claim to have all the facts. I don't know anything for sure. That's just my opinion about the situation from my point of view.
