What is the current word on layoffs in the HO and stores closing in January?

It is all about expense reduction and next year's profits. The method is to lay off enough in the different age groups to keep it technically legal. Target recruitment at the less expensive, younger workers. Keep the indentured H1Bs which are cheaper in the long run - either contracted through a body shop or hired. Push work to offshore where productivity per individual is less, but the salaries are a third of the cost here. It might be legal, but it is unethical and un-American. Unfortunately, keeping the tech salaries lower will drive more Americans away from STEM, thus re-enforcing the "need" for more foreign labor.

For layoffs in the HO, expect the purge of older workers to continue. Following the last layoff, our new great leader addressed the concern about older workers being laid off by saying that it was done within the law and in proportion to the age of the workforce. In a recent meeting, he said that they are looking to hire "recent college graduates", which is a well known euphemism for hiring only young workers. That violates the EEOC, but Walmart has some good lawyers. Anyway, its a good way of getting rid of reducing the number of older workers that drive up Walmart's healthcare costs.
