Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Where are the humidifier filters???!!!

Super annoying to have members bumbling in to purchase humidifier filters and getting mad cause the company apparently can't manage to supply this high markup item. A search on .com says not available within 50 miles of the A store I work in. Sometimes it seems like they really just want to piss off customers.

Well in the real world you're an idiot to buy something at a store you expect to be closed in a week. No (or no easy) recourse for a warranty claim and very little time to effect a return. Another Appalachian?

In the real world, we buy stuff at Sears with the expectation the store and all Sears will be out of business and locked up a week later. It a bonus that we can go back weeks later and look for over priced humidifier filters.

I don't work at sears anymore but I bought my humidifier there and they still sell them so it is reasonable to expect them to sell the filters. I would also expect them to sell water filters for their refrigerators. The fact that I buy them from ebay is simply because they are cheaper and a bonus is no sales tax and free shipping.

Nobody expects to find anything in a Sears because no body shops at Sears. Take a poll and ask the last time most people shopped at Sears. Bet it was back in the 70's or 80's with their mom for school shopping.

Last time I was in a Sears store, it looked like goodwill. I don't expect to find anything at my local Sears. It doesn't help the mall is now home to a bunch of homeless since no one goes to malls anymore.

Basically, you folks should look for new jobs, automation will replace you sooner than you think.

The point is that the customers are coming in to shop with us with the expectation that they will find what they need, but they didn't. It would be unreasonable to expect a Sears store to carry groceries but it is perfectly reasonable to expect to be able to buy a humidifier filter, since that is something a Sears store could be expected to carry. You would expect an AutoZone to carry motor oil or a Home Depot to carry sink faucets.

The customer is not to blame. They could have went to Amazon or patronized another brick and mortar store but they decided to shop with us. We don't do the gatekeeping and decide if customers are right or wrong for having a reasonable expectation for us to keep merchandise that is reasonable for us to carry.

It doesn't matter how much money Eddie infuses into this money pit. If we didn't have customers we would have no reason or ability to exist.

the vendor who manufactuers the filters has not been paid and refuses to ship. If you look it up it says the filters will be here in 10 weeks. You can get the filters on Amazon

Appalachia is probably the only location a Sears store might survive.

@que I think the point that he is trying to make, dumbo, is that these people are coming into the store and looking for a product that should be stocked but isn't. Obviously there are other channels to buy through, but these people didn't choose them. What part of Appalachia did you say you were from?

I get it... 2 hours or less from Amazon.

The fact is they Do come into the store for filters that we really should carry. And many of these people are of the mindset that they want it when they want it, which is at that moment. And they are very unpleasant to deal with. Of course you can get them online, and cheaper to boot, but they don't want to wait those few days to get it. If you don't get it, don't comment.

Unless this is a strange coincidence, I think I know who this is. She brought this up on Pebble a few days ago under "Tales From The Salesfloor".

Nevertheless, we can't give our customers what we need. I work in tools, lawn and garden and fitness. Really basic things are no longer available or come in without any stable supply. Might get 10 one week, two the next, none for the following month. Contractors and pros laugh at our table saws, drill presses and other power tools made by the no-name Chinese outfits, probably the absolute lowest bidder. Bob Vila is probably ashamed of being associated with Sears, even though Sears 20 years ago and Sears today are like comparing apples and oranges.

My Kmart store sells dryers, but we no longer sell dryer cords. Yup that makes so much sense. Some people end up saying never mind, I'll just go buy my dryer from someone who can sell me everything I need with it.
