Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How were your Christmas store sales?

Down 15% for us. So not good with the papers saying it was a good holiday for some other brick and mortar players.

@3jpw Don't think that just because your store is clean and is doing good it wont close. Your from Cali as you said you probably heard one of the big ones in La Jolla Closing being UTC I went to that store man was it clean and nice and what was shocking was that it closed it was in a very high end neighborhood.

We are up 3% in Atlanta. But our stores too are clean and in good condition. I think sears is just abandoning the Midwest primarily, we seem to be doing good in other places from people I talk to and business was solid in our store.

We would’ve done better but just couldn’t get the merchandise in.

@3jpw be careful. One store can not save a company that is bleeding cash. No one is safe.

Up 12%, Cali store tho and we always beat the numbers. No closings here, stores are clean, staff good. All is well.

Judging by the enormous piles of returns in our store day after day, I suspect that we'd actually be not that far off of last year's sales...if we actually had a staff to run the store. I know I've found entire carts full of merchandise just abandoned near checkouts, presumably from customers who were fed up of waiting in line for an hour due to lack of operators, frequent hardware breakdowns, or just the delays caused by the broken promotional programs this company tries to run. Naturally, if someone had been wanting to actually buy something before abandoning it, then it's probably something someone else might want too, but with no staff, it's not going back to the shelf for anyone else to find anytime soon. The sight of two dozen carts full of random merchandise piled in a corner probably doesn't do anything to excite customers either. If even 25% of that merchandise had sold, it would have more than paid for all the wages of everyone that has been laid off in the past year.

We had lots of customers shopping thier way! Meaning grabbing items and running out the door with them.

However, our manager says the store's profit is up (???)

Probably due to other cutbacks like payroll.

It's a crazy thing, but yes you have to take into consideration everything not just sales. I know we aren't used to this, and I am not saying that it is ever good to be down in sales but you have to look at expenses too. This year, we basically just had to end up making more money by whatever means possible.....increasing sales OR reducing expenses.

There's no printed ad circular anymore, maybe this is why.
