Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Could it be time to organize?

I've been with the company for over eight years, now, and things seem to be going nowhere but downhill. We've seen labor cuts, increases in cost of benefits, the realignment, and positions being eliminated through team combination. I think we're kidding ourselves if we believe that things will improve under Amazon. I also think that in terms of larger policy issues, we have no negotiating power as individuals. I believe the time has come to ask ourselves if our interests would be better served through collective bargaining, but I'm interested in what others think.

Go ahead Norma Rea.... the AFL-CIO is anxiously awaiting your call....and your money. Not that I want to be discouraging, but lets be honest here...I dont think that there are too many people who see WFM as a long term career. What would we bargain for? Pension plans? We could ask for better treatment from TL's (mine is a little pr*** Houston Metro likes to hire jerks like this)... but Unions do not protect from a reduction in hours due to poor sales. There is nothing that can be done about insurance premiums--that is a HUGE mess that Congress created. They could revamp the attendance policy. We could ask for more Holidays--but those are supposed to be volunteer anyway... so what else is there to do??

WFM is a cult and if you don't show that you are brainwashable you will be cut. They can't have a union as the managers will ask a cashier to work the meat department and produce too. Don't forget to clean the toilets afterwards. Most sheep's like 90 percent complied and looked afraid but if you did not you got wacked. This is not a company to work for unless you like being used and abused and is a sadist or masochist. It is a terrible company.

One- better have a new job lined up before you start the process of a union.

Two- better have more money and better lawyers then Bezos.

Good luck, you will need it.

I wanted to get the UNION involved years ago. Store level management is terrible on many serious levels that needs UNION overseers. Never thought I would say that, but WFM has issues they could be sued over.
