Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Store Sales

My store Mgr told me that our store is going to do approximately $7.5M in sales for 2017 vs $10M in 2016. My assumption is that it does not bode well? Is there a minimum sales threshold to remain open?

If this is a Sears store you will be left with an SM and maybe one ASM with a couple of leads. It happened in our Sears store.

The end is near and I can't wait for such a ignorant company like this to end. Kmart had a chance to revive itself about 10 to 14 years ago and lost the chance with eddies stupid cost cutting, no store remodels etc. We could have been a nice store but it won't happen. Sears will survive with its outlet stores, hometown etc for a little while longer.

Store expenses eat up sales pretty quickly. If the staffing matrix is out of whack (too many associates with too many hours only willing to work their their corner of the store and not pitch in) and the store manager doesn't have a set of balls to fix it, then it's relatively easy for a $7.5 million store to go in the red. Unfortunately many store managers are told by DMs and corporate to leave the staffing matrix alone. Then they are left panicking when the sales numbers don't justify the people on the floor. Which leads to things like scrimping on store maintenance, not calling in techs to fix broken registers, and so on.

If the company really wanted to turn things around long ago they would have started getting some exciting things in to buy especially in clothing

Its hard to say OP because depending how big your store is along with volume sales, work force, expenses etc. It just depends if its worth closing for good or selling the restate or whatever they think is best for good old Eddie. Although you have a pretty big decrease that will either result with closing or having some major cuts for the company.

Everything is only running as usual because they have not yet announced the big closing down since they are still trying to make every last bit of holiday sales. But after New Years, the sh-- is going to start to really fly.

My store is down about that much in % terms too. You sound like you think Sears will actually survive and some stores will stay open.

If so, I think you should wipe the rose color from your glasses. It's only a matter of time before we all lose our jobs.
